Over the last 50 years, there have been many attempts to devise and validate questionnaires to assess an individual’s attitude toward money and related issues. This paper attempts to conduct a comprehensive review of those measures. In all, this paper documents 54 salient studies and consults many other references from diverse and multi-disciplinary literature. There is evidently a great deal of overlap in the money attitudes dimensions assessed. Research has concentrated on the correlates of these attitudes (cultural, demographic, financial, and personality). Suggestions for the choice and development of measures are made, along with propositions for future research. Full article

The fast expanding market of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) demands industry-specific competence requirements for maintenance technicians. We have therefore generated a knowledge structure of BEV maintenance through a literature review and expert consensus. Consensus was achieved following a Delphi study of 15 industry experts through three rounds of refining a broad initial list of competencies. The resulting framework consists of four core competency categories (Professional Knowledge, Professional Skills, Professional Attitude, and Personal Qualities), which are further divided into a total of 24 subcategories and 106 specific indicators that define the boundary of professional skill as well as core skill essentials. This approved tool can be used strategically for workforce grooming, curriculum design for training, and performance assessment in BEV maintenance to ensure that technical workforce capabilities are in line with sustainable mobility targets of the industry. Background: During childhood and adolescence, personality development is continuous. Younger people—defined in this study as high-school students aged 14 to 18—are particularly receptive to change. The health behaviors formed during this period can significantly influence health in later life. Therefore, families and schools play a crucial role in promoting a healthy lifestyle. In our research, we examined the relationship between psychosocial resources (social support and school resources) and the regularity and intensity of physical activity. Methods: In this study, “appropriate physical activity” refers to the level and intensity of activity recommended by the World Health Organization—namely, at least 60 min per day of moderate- to vigorous-intensity aerobic activity for adolescents. We conducted our cross-sectional research in Hungary, Western Transdanubia, using convenience sampling among high-school students (n = 331). Data collected with a self-edited and standardized questionnaire (MSPSS, HBSC school resources and school social support) were analyzed using the SPSS Statistics 22 program with a t-test, ANOVA and χ2 test (p < 0.05). Results: In the case of the time spent on physical activities per week, boys (p < 0.05) and younger people (p < 0.05) showed a much more favorable picture. Examining the intensity of regular physical activity among students who belonged to the appropriate range, the average values of family social support were significantly higher (p < 0.05), but this association was not observed for social support from friends or significant others (p > 0.05). The amount of movement was not differentiated by support from others (p > 0.05). The level of attitude towards their school was higher among students who performed physical activity of the appropriate quality and quantity (p < 0.05). Teachers’ assessment of school performance and the quality of the relationship with teachers showed a correlation with physical activity performed at the appropriate intensity (p < 0.05). Conclusions: We found a positive effect of family and school resources on the regularity and intensity of physical activity, which draws attention to strengthening the partnership between family and school, improving the school atmosphere and social support within the school, increasing students’ attachment to their institution. The combination of these resources can help children lead a more active and healthier life, which has a beneficial long-term impact on their physical and mental well-being. The cooperation between parents and schools is crucial in supporting young people in adopting a healthy lifestyle. Full article

Background/Objective: The priority task of each country is to ensure the protection of and improvement in its people’s health. One of the key aspects of health is related to food culture, consuming foods that ensure growth and normal development in a person and also prevent diseases. The consumption of foods that contain essential nutrients and functional foods, which include those containing probiotics, is the basis of a healthy diet. Methods: A structured anonymous interview was conducted with 90 parents from the Roma minority group to assess the nutritional culture of children from these families. The knowledge of Roma parents about probiotics, as well as their attitudes to apply them to their children, was examined. The survey was based on a questionnaire that was distributed among the respondents, Roma students, under the guidance of a mentor. Roma students study health specialties and are also participants in a Scholarship Programme. Results: We have established that the daily diet of children from this minority group consists of foods containing hydrogenated fats and sugar, which was indicated by 53.3% of respondents, and only 28.9% of respondents noted that their children consume fresh fruit every day. We have established that less than half of the children (35.6%) consume yoghurt daily as a source of valuable probiotics. We applied a nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis test and found statistically significant differences in the respondents’ knowledge of probiotics (χ2 = 16.186, p = 0.001): those receiving secondary specialized education were better informed, but education has not affected their knowledge of the health benefits of probiotics (χ2 = 5.462, p = 0.141). Children from minority groups tend to eat unhealthy foods. Conclusions: The role of Roma students studying health specialties as participants in the Scholarship Programme is to assist parents in forming a nutritional culture in their children. Roma students, due to their ethnic and cultural proximity and potential to be health professionals, contribute to sustainable health improvements among the Roma community as a whole. Full article

Aim: To understand dementia care knowledge, attitudes, and confidence among acute-care support staff following a dementia education intervention titled Dementia Workforce Excellence in Acute Care. Design: A convergent parallel mixed-methods pilot study. Methods: Data were collected from 30 participants using an online survey and three individual interviews between January and March 2024. Survey data were analysed using descriptive statistics, and a thematic analysis underpinned by Kirkpatrick’s framework was used to analyse the qualitative data from interviews. Results: The online survey established good levels of dementia knowledge, attitudes, and confidence among support staff with enhanced attitudes among staff who completed the training. Analysis of interviews resulted in three themes: dementia in the acute care setting; motivation for learning; and evaluation of the intervention on four levels [satisfaction, learning gains, behaviours, and results]. Conclusion: Findings suggest that the dementia education intervention used in this study is a comprehensive dementia training resource that promotes person-centred and compassionate dementia care across all stages of the dementia journey. Dementia is a public health priority with workforce education identified as a key response for capacity building. This pilot evaluation offers insight and new learning on the pedagogical approaches that are inclusive of peer-supported reflective learning in small groups that remain untapped for dementia workforce development. Dementia inclusive and enabling environments with a knowledgeable and skilled workforce are crucial to mitigate stigma and discrimination. This can be best achieved by raising awareness through targeted staff education and training to make hospital environments more dementia inclusive. Patient or Public Contributions: Dementia care scenarios used in this study were co-designed by experts with lived experience of dementia. Additionally, these experts along with family carers of people living with dementia were involved in the delivery of the training where appropriate. Full article

Barriers to help-seeking behaviors in transgender populations in non-Western contexts are both understudied and poorly understood. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, this study examined the psychological help-seeking attitudes of 109 transgender persons from Pakistan in relation to their psychological distress and attitudes toward sexuality. This research further identified which components of distress (stress, anxiety, or depression) were stronger predictors and assessed the role of particular demographic/behavioral factors in help-seeking attitudes. Participants completed three validated assessment tools translated into Urdu: Beliefs about Psychological Services Scale, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Sexual Attitude Scale. The results indicated that psychological distress predicted expertness and intent but not stigma tolerance. Post hoc analysis using DASS-21 subscales revealed that stress and anxiety were the stronger predictors of attitudes related to expertness and intent. The Sexual Attitude Scale marginally predicted stigma tolerance directly and also moderated the relationship between psychological distress and help-seeking attitudes for stigma tolerance. Finally, a role for demographic/behavioral factors—possibly serving as a proxy for mental health literacy—was identified for stigma tolerance. These findings reiterate the importance of tailored mental health awareness initiatives within the transgender community in non-Western settings and highlight the need for qualitative research to further understand the dynamics of psychological distress along with other linked factors. Awareness about the attitudes towards the vaccination of persons with schizophrenia is essential, as this group has a greater likelihood of experiencing serious consequences if infected with COVID-19 or other infectious processes. For this reason, 141 persons with schizophrenia completed a survey addressing different aspects of receiving the vaccine for COVID-19. In general, the results are similar to those of people without a severe mental disorder. Persons with schizophrenia were willing to get vaccinated, perceived vaccination as being as safe and effective as the general population did, and reported that they usually followed preventive measures to avoid the spread of the virus. However, their concerns were frequently related to possible health problems or fears about the vaccination. There is no influence from sociodemographic variables, though limited social life, perceived risk in people in their immediate environment, and a negative self-assessment of their own health were associated with increased acceptance of vaccination. Thus, the present study provides useful information on this topic and encourages the development of programs and interventions that promote preventive actions for this group of people. Full article

Background: Educational requirements in healthcare are constantly evolving, and understanding nurses’ motivations toward continuing education is critical to designing nursing programs, developing workforce strategies, and ensuring better healthcare outcomes. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationships among nurses’ personal factors, motivations, and attitudes toward further education. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 526 employed nurses. Based on their intention to enroll in studies, the nurses were divided into two groups: those who intended to enroll (n = 276) and those who did not intend to enroll (n = 250). We used the Work Preferences Inventory and the Attitudes and Educational Intentions Scale to assess motivations and attitudes toward further education. The multivariate analysis included linear and logistic regression to assess associations between variables. Results: Nurses who intended to enroll in nursing studies had higher intrinsic motivation than nurses who did not. Strong negative associations were found between job challenges and older age (β = −0.68), while length of service was positively correlated (β = 0.46). A lower level of education had a negative effect on overall work motivation (β = −0.15) and attitudes toward future education (β = −0.09). Nurses with higher intrinsic challenge motivation (OR = 1.07) and a positive attitude toward further education (OR = 1.17) were more likely to study nursing. Conclusions: Intrinsic motivation, experience, and a positive attitude toward career advancement influence nurses’ intentions to continue their education. To further motivate nurses, it is crucial to improve working conditions, offer advancement opportunities, and foster a culture that values their contributions and growth. Full article

There is an ongoing global call for culturally responsive pedagogy that helps promote inclusivity in education. Yet, indigenous languages and literature are heavily marginalized in Nigeria’s Western education system. For instance, many students have poor learning outcomes in Yorùbá orature due to the negative effects of Westernization and the overdominance of the English language. Therefore, this study aimed to design and test the effects of a resource-person-mediated instruction as a form of culturally responsive education on junior secondary students’ learning outcomes in Yorùbá orature. This research used a mixed-method (QUAN + qual) research design, with a pre-test–post-test one group quasi-experimental research design and focused group discussion (FGD) with participating students. This study found a significant difference in students’ pre-test and post-test measures in the knowledge of Yorùbá orature, attitude to Yorùbá orature, and motivation for Yorùbá orature. The prevailing themes from students’ FGD were that the use of resource-person mediated instruction promoted active instructional engagement, cultural motivation, and socio-cultural competence. This article concludes that intervention through resource-person mediated instruction is a culturally responsive education capable of making students culturally competent and socially relevant. Yorùbá language teachers should adopt this instruction to improve their students’ learning outcomes in Yorùbá orature. Full article

This article investigated the potential of the digital storytelling method, within the setting of an undergraduate digital design studio, to create compelling learning experiences in architectural education. The study explored how enabling students to express their architectural concepts through digital storytelling can impact their visual communication skills and design thinking. Specifically, the research evaluated the effect of this method on student engagement, creativity, and conceptual understanding. The content analysis of student digital stories revealed four emergent categories: informative (educational-informative), inspiring (imagination-personal development), problem-solving (critical solution), and empathy and understanding (social sustainability). The study also observed the beneficial role of information and digital communication technologies in fostering positive student attitudes toward digital storytelling within a social constructivist learning environment. The integration of digital technologies and the exploration of the sources of the students’ conceptual inspiration were key components of this approach. The findings suggest that digital storytelling is a valuable instructional tool for consistently articulating the design process, from the initial concepts to the analysis, visualization, and expression. Furthermore, this method appeared to enhance the students’ creative thinking during the design process and contribute to the development of more robust conceptual design skills. Full article

Background/Objectives: There is scientific evidence showing that body- and/or body weight-related blaming, guilting, and shaming continue to be both promoted and tolerated in many societal contexts, including schools and healthcare settings. A deeply ingrained belief still prevails among many individuals that inducing these negative emotions can serve as a motivator for children and adolescents to engage in obesity treatment. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review is to examine these emotions (blame, guilt, shame) in relation to body weight and their impact on psychological functioning within the pediatric population affected by overweight and obesity. Methods: Articles were searched up using PubMed and Web of Science in June 2023 and March 2025. The search was conducted without limiting the years of publication. The inclusion criteria included the following: (1) pediatric samples, (2) full text available, and (3) original research articles. Articles were excluded if they were editorials, letters, replies from authors, review articles, and articles without a full text. Results: The initial search returned 199 results. A total of 16 articles were included in the study. Analysis of the collected records revealed associations between body- or weight-related blame, guilt, and shame and various aspects of psychological functioning in the pediatric population such as (a) interpersonal context (e.g., social stigma, bullying, teasing history, social connectedness, weight-related language used by parents in conversations with children and adolescents; (b) intrapsychic context—relationship with eating and food (e.g., binge eating, dietary restraint, emotional eating, and the risk of developing eating disorders); (c) intrapsychic context—self-perception (e.g., self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness, self-compassion, self-efficacy, perceived control); (d) intrapsychic context—emotional functioning (e.g., emotional distress, anxiety, depression, emotion regulation strategies); and (e) intrapsychic context—additional psychological factors (e.g., mindfulness, quality of life, willingness to seek help, and motivation for both help-seeking and sustaining successful lifestyle changes). Conclusions: Understanding the dynamics of body- and/or weight-related blame, guilt, and shame among children and adolescents with overweight and obesity is essential for developing effective support systems that enhance their well-being and psychological resilience in both the prevention and treatment of obesity. Further research is needed to explore the relationships between body- and weight-related blame, guilt, and shame and psychological functioning in pediatric populations with overweight and obesity, including the dynamics of child–parent–healthcare provider interactions, the context of parenting skills and attitudes that support the child during obesity treatment, the long-term consequences of body- and weight-related blame, guilt, and shame, the relationship between healthcare providers’ tendencies to engage in body- and weight-related shaming or blaming and their communication skills and mental well-being (e.g., levels of professional burnout, emotion regulation skills, and personality traits), as well as the influence of social media on body- and weight-related shame, guilt, and blame. With the increasing amount of attention paid to sustainable tourism, balancing tourism growth with ecosystem conservation has become critical. As one of the most concentrated forms of tourism, island tourism is subject to distinct ecological pressures, making the study of tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior (TERB) both urgent and necessary. However, research on TERB in island tourism remains limited. In this study, we investigated Jeju Island as a case study and, based on 575 valid responses, integrated the value–identity–personal norm (VIP), value–attitude–behavior (VAB), theory of planned behavior (TPB), and complexity theory models to explore the formation pathways of TERB systematically. Structural equation modeling (SEM) confirmed that the core components of the VIP, VAB, and TPB models positively influence the development of TERB, while nationality emerged as a significant moderator. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) further revealed six causal configurations, highlighting the diverse and non-linear TERB pathways. These findings will serve as significant theoretical insights into TERB and provide practical strategies for utilizing ecotourism as a tool for sustainable island tourism development. Full article

Economic transformations in emerging countries have resulted in an increase in the volume of international travellers from diverse geographical regions. In the tourism sector, service providers must possess cultural competencies that foster a flexible and appropriate attitude, which in turn affects the perception of service. The present study aims to shed light on the motivational factors and cultural behaviours that influence intercultural empathy among staff working in the tourism sector in Quintana Roo. To this end, a comprehensive literature review has been conducted, during which the variables have been validated, and a quantitative study has been undertaken, employing multivariate analysis through a Multiple Correspondence Analysis and inferential statistics with an Ordinal Logistic Regression. The findings of this study demonstrate a positive correlation between motivation and cultural behaviour, which is contingent on experience and age, and its impact on empathy in understanding and meeting the diverse needs of tourists. Cultural motivation is defined as the interest in learning and interacting in multicultural situations, and its impact on behaviour is reflected in appropriate personal management for effective cultural interactions. The probabilities estimated by ordinal logistic regression models of consistently or predominantly exhibiting intercultural empathy increase with age and experience for the most significant variables obtained by the Multiple Correspondence Analysis. Psychosocial Factors Involved in Genetic Testing for Rare Diseases: A Scoping Review

Background/Objectives: Rare diseases are predominantly genetic in etiology and characterized by a prolonged ‘diagnostic odyssey’. Advances in genetic testing (GT) have helped shorten the time to diagnosis for rare/undiagnosed conditions. We aimed to synthesize the evidence on psychosocial factors related to GT for rare diseases to inform more person-centered approaches to care. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature search in six databases using structured terms (September 2024). Retrieved articles underwent independent dual review. Data were extracted and collated in tables for analysis. Thematic analysis was used to identify promoters/barriers to GT for patients and families. Findings were validated by a patient advocate and were reported using PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Synthesized findings were mapped to the Theory of Planned Behavior to inform intervention development. Results: Of 1730 retrieved articles, 32 were included for data extraction/synthesis. Studies employed qualitative (n = 19), quantitative (n = 10), and mixed-methods (n = 3) approaches. Nearly all (29/32, 91%) were non-interventional, reporting on decision-making cognitions/processes (19/32, 59%), attitudes/preferences (15/32, 47%), psychosocial impact (6/32, 19%), and knowledge/awareness (4/32, 8%) of pre-conception/prenatal/diagnostic GT and carrier screening. Promoters included understanding GT, ending the diagnostic odyssey, actionable outcomes, personal/family history, altruism, and reproductive decision-making. Barriers included logistical (e.g., distance, cost), psychological burden, perceived lack of benefit, and discrimination/social stigma concerns. Conclusions: Some psychosocial factors related to GT for rare diseases overlap with those in literature on GT for common conditions. Identified factors represent targets for theory-informed, person-centered interventions to support high-quality GT decisions that are informed and aligned with patient/family values and preferences. Rapid and Unpredictable Shifts in Perceived Pleasantness of Continuous Affective Touch

Affective touch (stroking the skin at velocities between 1 and 10 cm/s) is generally perceived as pleasant. However, this pleasant sensation diminishes with continuous stimulation over several minutes, with substantial individual variability in the habituation process. This study aimed to identify individual characteristics associated with the decline in the hedonic value of prolonged affective touch. Eighty-one female participants (mean age = 26 years) received continuous stroking on their forearms for 10 min at two distinct velocities: 3 cm/s (affective touch) and 30 cm/s (nonaffective touch). Every 100 s, participants rated the perceived pleasantness of the stimulation. Regression analyses were conducted to examine whether participants’ age, attitude toward touch by an unfamiliar person, recalled positive touch experiences during childhood, sympathy toward the toucher, reported symptoms of anxiety, depression, or somatization, and order of touch conditions predicted changes in their responses. On average, the perceived pleasantness of touch declined over time. The extent of the decline and individual variability in pleasantness ratings were not significantly associated with the selected predictors. However, higher overall ratings of affective touch pleasantness were linked to greater sympathy toward the toucher, lower levels of depression and somatization, and a lower frequency of recalled positive touch experiences during childhood. Affective touch was perceived as more pleasant when it was preceded by the nonaffective touch condition, compared to when the order was reversed. Order effects, the rapid decline, and substantial individual variability in the perceived pleasantness of prolonged affective touch should be considered in both research and therapeutic applications.
