In this paper, a lightweight permanent magnet in-wheel (LW-PMIW) motor is proposed. This research focuses on using a multi-modulation design to enhance the amplitude of the fundamental wave while suppressing high-order harmonics, thereby enabling the motor to achieve high output torque, a light weight, and a high efficiency. Firstly, a combined trade-off factor related to motor mass, losses, and torque is defined specifically to provide guidance for the design. Secondly, a dual-rotor structure is adopted, and a harmonic injection (HI) design is applied to the permanent magnets (PMs). By designing a targeted harmonic injection ratio coefficient, the non-working harmonics of the PM magnetomotive force (MMF) can be weakened. Then, two iron modulating blocks are introduced to asynchronously modulate the PM MMF, which can further enhance the fundamental amplitude and improve the distribution of the airgap magnetic field. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the multi-modulation design, the electromagnetic performance of the motor is evaluated and analyzed. The analytical and simulation results show that the torque of the proposed motor can reach 35.4 Nm, which is an increase of 19.6% while the torque ripple remains unchanged compared with the initial motor. Meanwhile, the output power increased by 0.37 kW. Hence, the rationality and effectiveness of the motor design are verified. Full article

This paper proposes a double-three-phase permanent magnet fault-tolerant machine (DTP-PMFTM) with low short-circuit current for flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) to balance torque performance and short-circuit current suppression. The key innovation lies in its modular winding configuration that ensures electrical isolation between the two winding sets. First, the structural characteristics of the double three-phase windings are analyzed. Subsequently, the harmonic features of the resultant magnetomotive force (MMF) are systematically investigated. To verify the performance, the proposed machine is compared against a conventional winding structure as a baseline, focusing on key parameters such as output torque and short-circuit current. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed machine achieves an average torque of approximately 14.7 N·m with a torque ripple of about 3.27%, a phase inductance of approximately 3.7 mH, and a short-circuit current of approximately 50.9 A. Crucially, compared to the conventional winding, the modular structure increases the phase inductance by about 32.1% and reduces the short-circuit current by 29.7%. Finally, an experimental platform is established to validate the performance of the machine. Full article

For high-voltage signal detection applications, an auto-zero and chopper operational amplifier (OPA) is proposed in this paper. With the auto-zero and chopper technique, the OPA adopts an eight-channel Ping-Pong mechanism to reduce the high-frequency ripple and glitch generated by chopper modulation. The main transconductor effectively suppresses low-frequency noise and offset by combining input coarse and output fine auto-zero. A common-mode voltage tracking circuit is presented to ensure constant gate-source and gate-substrate voltages of the chopper, which reduces the charge injection caused by threshold voltage drift of their transistors and improves output signal resolution. The OPA is implemented using CMOS 180 nm BCD process. The post-simulation results show that the unit gain bandwidth (UGB) is 2.5 MHz and common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) is 137 dB when the power supply voltage is 5–55 V. The noise power spectral density (PSD) is 6.6 nV/√Hz, and the offset is about 47 µV. The overall circuit consumes current of 960 µA. Full article

To enhance the electromagnetic performance of flat-wire permanent magnet synchronous motors, three different groove structures were designed for the rotor, and a multi-objective optimization algorithm combining a genetic algorithm (GA) with the TOPSIS method was proposed. Firstly, an 8-pole 48-slot flat-wire motor model was established, and the cogging torque was analytically calculated to compare the motor’s performance under different groove schemes. Secondly, global multi-objective optimization of the rotor groove dimensions was performed using a combined simulation approach involving Maxwell, Workbench, and Optislang, and the optimal rotor groove size structure was selected using the TOPSIS method. Finally, a comparative analysis of the motor’s performance under both rated-load and no-load conditions was conducted for the pre- and post-optimization designs, followed by verification of the mechanical strength of the optimized rotor structure. The research results demonstrate that the combined optimization approach utilizing the genetic algorithm and the TOPSIS method significantly enhances the torque characteristics of the motor. The computational results indicate that the average torque is increased to 165.32 N·m, with the torque ripple reduced from 28.37% to 13.32% and the cogging torque decreased from 896.88 mN·m to 187.9 mN·m. Moreover, the total distortion rates of the air-gap magnetic flux density and the no-load back EMF are significantly suppressed, confirming the rationality of the proposed motor design. Full article

The study of vibration characteristics and suppression methods in integrated electric drive systems of electric vehicles is of critical importance. To investigate these characteristics, both current harmonics within the motor and nonlinear factors within the drivetrain were considered. A 17-degree-of-freedom nonlinear torsional–planar dynamic model was developed, with electromagnetic torque and output speed as coupling terms. The model’s accuracy was experimentally validated, and the system’s dynamic responses were analyzed under different working conditions. To mitigate vibrations caused by torque ripple, a coordinated control strategy was proposed, combining a quasi-proportional multi-resonant (QPMR) controller and a full-frequency harmonic controller (FFHC). The results demonstrate that the proposed strategy effectively suppresses multi-order current harmonics in the driving motor, reduces torque ripple by 45.1%, and enhances transmission stability. In addition, the proposed electromechanical coupling model provides valuable guidance for the analysis of integrated electric drive systems. Full article

The force ripple of a permanent magnet synchronous linear motor (PMSLM) caused by multi-source disturbances in practical applications seriously restricts its high-precision motion control performance. The traditional single-mechanism model has difficulty fully characterizing the nonlinear disturbance factors, while the data-driven method has real-time limitations. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid modeling framework that integrates the physical mechanism and measured data and realizes the dynamic compensation of the force ripple by constructing a collaborative suppression algorithm. At the mechanistic level, based on electromagnetic field theory and the virtual displacement principle, an analytical model of the core disturbance terms such as the cogging effect and the end effect is established. At the data level, the acceleration sensor is used to collect the dynamic response signal in real time, and the data-driven ripple residual model is constructed by combining frequency domain analysis and parameter fitting. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, a hardware and software experimental platform including a multi-core processor, high-precision current loop controller, real-time data acquisition module, and motion control unit is built to realize the online calculation and closed-loop injection of the hybrid compensation current. Experiments show that the hybrid framework effectively compensates the unmodeled disturbance through the data model while maintaining the physical interpretability of the mechanistic model, which provides a new idea for motor performance optimization under complex working conditions. Dual three-phase PMSMs (DTP-PMSMs) have attracted increasing attention in the field of robotics industry for their higher power density and enhanced fault-tolerant ability. The non-phase-shifted DTP-PMSM (NPSDTP-PMSM), which shows naturally prevailed performance on zero-sequence current (ZSC) suppression, necessitates the investigation on the control method with improved fault-tolerant performance. In this paper, a novel fault-tolerant control (FTC) method for NPSDTP-PMSM is proposed, which concurrently simultaneously reduces copper loss and suppresses torque ripple under single and dual open phase fault. Firstly, the mathematical model of NPSDTP-PMSM is established, where the ZSC self-suppressing mechanism is revealed. Based on which, investigations on open phase fault and the copper loss characteristics for NPSDTP-PMSM are conducted. Subsequently, a novel fault-tolerant control method is proposed for NPSDTP-PMSM, where the torque ripple is reduced by mutual cancellation of harmonic torques from two winding sets and minimized copper loss is achieved based on the convex characteristic of copper loss. Experimental validation on an integrated robotic joint motor platform confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method. Full article

To improve commutation accuracy and effectively suppress torque ripple in brushless DC motors (BLDCMs), this paper presents a novel commutation correction strategy integrated into an enhanced direct torque control (DTC) framework. The proposed method estimates the commutation angle error in real time by analyzing the integral difference in phase currents across adjacent 30° conduction intervals, enabling dynamic and accurate commutation correction. This correction mechanism is seamlessly embedded into a modified DTC algorithm that employs a three-level torque hysteresis comparator and introduces a novel zero-voltage vector selection strategy to minimize torque ripple. Compared with conventional DTC approaches employing dual-loop control and standard zero vectors, the proposed method achieves up to a 58% reduction in torque ripple along with improved commutation precision, as demonstrated through both simulation and experimental validation. These results confirm the method’s effectiveness and its potential for application in high-performance BLDCMs drive systems. Full article

The totem-pole bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) circuit based on the triangular current mode (TCM) in the front-end PFC of a switching power supply has the advantage of realizing zero-voltage switching (ZVS) in the full working range. However, the TCM control based on the critical conduction mode (CRM) further increases the inductance current ripple, and the traditional input voltage AC sampling circuit increases the circuit complexity and device cost. Therefore, this paper studies the corresponding improvement technology from two dimensions. Firstly, the coordinated interleaved parallel technology is employed to design the system’s overall control-improvement strategy. This approach not only achieves full working-range ZVS but also reduces both the inductor current ripple and power device stress. Simultaneously, an optimized input voltage sampling circuit is designed to accommodate varying voltage requirements of control chip pins. This circuit demonstrates strong synchronization in both voltage and phase sampling, and the structural characteristics of the optocoupler can also suppress electrical signal interference. Finally, a 600 W totem-pole bridgeless PFC prototype is developed. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed improved method. The prototype efficiency peak reaches 97.3%. The lower-limb assistance exoskeleton is increasingly being utilized in various fields due to its excellent performance in human body assistance. As a crucial component of robots, the joint is expected to be designed with a high-output torque to support hip and knee movement, and lightweight to enhance user experience. Contrasted with the elastic actuation with harmonic drive and other flexible transmission, the non-elastic quasi-direct actuation is more promising to be applied in exoskeleton due to its advanced dynamic performance and lightweight feature. Moreover, robot joints are commonly driven electrically, especially by a permanent magnet synchronous motor which is rapidly developed because of its compact structure and powerful output. Based on different topological structures, numerous research focus on torque density, ripple torque suppression, efficiency improvement, and thermal management to improve motor performance. Furthermore, the elaborated joint with powerful motors should be controlled compliantly to improve flexibility and interaction, and therefore, popular complaint control algorithms like impedance and admittance controls are discussed in this paper. Through the review and analysis of the integrated design from mechanism structure to control algorithm, it is expected to indicate developmental prospects of lower-limb assistance exoskeleton joints with optimized performance. This paper proposes a miniaturized design for a terahertz tri-mirror compact antenna test range (CATR) system, composed of a square-aperture paraboloid primary mirror with a side length of 0.2 m and two shaped mirrors with circular apertures of 0.06 m and 0.07 m in diameter. The design first employs the cross-polarization cancelation method based on beam mode expansion to determine the geometric configuration of the system, thereby enabling the structure to exhibit low cross-polarization characteristics. Subsequently, the shaped mirrors, with beamforming and wave-front control capabilities, are synthesized using dynamic ray tracing based on geometric optics (GO) and the dual-paraboloid expansion method. Finally, the strong edge diffraction effects induced by the small-aperture primary mirror are suppressed by optimizing the desired quiet-zone (QZ) field width, adjusting the feed-edge taper, and incorporating rolled-edge structures on the primary mirror. Numerical simulation results indicate that within the 100–500 GHz frequency band, the system’s cross-polarization level is below −40 dB, while the amplitude and phase ripples of the co-polarization in the QZ are, respectively, less than 1.6 dB and 10°, and the QZ usage ratio exceeds 70%. The designed CATR was manufactured and tested. The results show that at 183 GHz and 275 GHz, the measured co-polarization amplitude and phase ripples in the system’s QZ are within 1.8 dB and 15°, respectively. While these values deviate slightly from simulations, they still meet the CATR evaluation criteria, which specify QZ co-polarization amplitude ripple < 2 dB and phase ripple < 20°. The overall physical structure sizes of the system are 0.61 m × 0.2 m × 0.66 m. The proposed miniaturized terahertz tri-mirror CATR design methodology not only enhances the QZ characteristics but also significantly reduces the spatial footprint of the entire system, demonstrating significant potential for practical engineering applications. In this paper, a high-voltage chopper and ping-pong auto-zeroing operational amplifier was designed for industrial and automotive applications. Based on chopper stabilization, the proposed circuit introduces a novel chopper switch control signal that varies with the input common-mode voltage. This scheme effectively suppresses the reference offset caused by the chopper switches and prevents transistor breakdown under high-voltage conditions. Additionally, the ping-pong auto-zero structure was optimized by employing a six-channel parallel first-stage amplifier, which further reduced the charge injection and ripple introduced by the chopper switches. The amplifier was implemented using an SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation) 180 nm 1P5M BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process with a chip area of 4.211 mm2. The post-layout simulation results show that, under a 55 V supply, the amplifier achieves an input-referred noise Power Spectral Density (PSD) of 6.2 nV/Hz and an input offset voltage of 32 μV, while the output voltage swings from 0.2 V to 53.4 V with a unity gain bandwidth of 3.2 MHz, which meets the requirements for high-voltage, high-resolution signal processing. Modular multilevel converter (MMC)-based power electronic transformers (PETs) present a promising solution for connecting AC/DC microgrids to facilitate renewable energy access. However, the capacitor ripple voltage in MMC-based PET submodules hinders volume optimization and power density enhancement, significantly limiting their application in distribution networks. To address this issue, this study introduces an optimized method for suppressing the submodule capacitor ripple voltage in MMC-based PET systems under normal and grid fault conditions. First, an MMC–PET topology featuring upper and lower arm coupling is proposed. Subsequently, a double-frequency circulating current injection strategy is incorporated on the MMC side to eliminate the double-frequency ripple voltage of the submodule capacitor. Furthermore, a phase-shifting control strategy is applied in the isolation stage of the dual-active bridge (DAB) to transfer the submodule capacitor selective ripple voltages to the isolation stage coupling link, effectively eliminating the fundamental frequency ripple voltage. The optimized approach successfully suppresses capacitor ripples without increasing current stress on the isolated-stage DAB switches, even under grid fault conditions, which are not addressed by existing ripple suppression methods, thereby reducing device size and cost while ensuring reliable operation. Specifically, the peak-to-peak submodule capacitor ripple voltage is reduced from 232 V to 10 V, and the peak current of the isolation-stage secondary-side switch is limited to ±90 A. The second harmonic ripple voltage on the LVDC bus can be decreased from ±5 V to ±1 V with the proposed method under the asymmetric grid voltage condition. Subsequently, a system simulation model is developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results validated the accuracy of the theoretical analysis and demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method. Full article

Wide-speed regulation control strategies for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSMs) are widely applied in industrial fields. However, traditional algorithms are prone to being affected by motor parameter mismatches, sensor sampling errors, and other disturbances under complex operating conditions, leading to insufficient robustness. In order to enhance dynamic performance while simultaneously ensuring robustness, we analyzed the limitations of traditional control strategies and, based on this, proposed an improved control framework. A Multi-Axis Coordinated Extended State Observer(MCESO)-based robust control framework was developed for full-speed domain operation, which enhances disturbance rejection capability against parameter uncertainties and abrupt load changes through hierarchical disturbance estimation. Subsequently, the effectiveness and stability of the proposed method were verified through theoretical analysis and simulation studies. Compared with traditional control strategies, this method can effectively observe and compensate for a series of complex issues such as nonlinear disturbances during operation without requiring additional hardware support. Finally, extensive experimental tests were carried out on a 500 W IPMSM dual-motor drive platform. The experimental results demonstrated that, even under harsh operating conditions, the proposed scheme can effectively suppress torque ripple and significantly reduce current harmonics. Full article

While DC/DC converters for water electrolysis systems have been widely investigated, they inherently face a critical compromise between wide voltage regulation capabilities and dynamic response characteristics. This study is based on a two-stage hybrid topology (TSIB-TPLLC) that synergistically combines a two-phase interleaved buck converter with a three-phase LLC resonant converter to resolve this challenge. The first-stage interleaved buck converter enables wide-range voltage regulation while reducing input current ripple and minimizing intermediate bus capacitance through phase-interleaved operation. The subsequent three-phase LLC stage operates at a fixed resonant frequency, achieving inherent output current ripple suppression through multi-phase cancellation while maintaining high conversion efficiency. A dual-loop control architecture incorporating linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) with PI compensation is developed to improve transient response compared to conventional PI-based methods. Finally, a 1.2 kW experimental prototype with an input voltage of 250 V and an output voltage of 24 V demonstrates the converter’s operational feasibility and enhanced steady-state/transient performance, confirming its suitability for hydrogen production applications.
