Coastal cities are located at the critical interface of land–sea interaction, and scientifically assessing their ecological importance is essential for identifying conservation priority areas. Existing assessments focus primarily on static function while neglecting dynamic system processes and resilience characteristics. To address this limitation, this study developed an innovative “State-Interaction-Resilience” (SIR) assessment framework. It integrates ecosystem services (state), ecological connectivity and network supply-demand relationships (interaction), and social-ecological system adaptive capacity (resilience) and incorporates differentiated weighting based on the unique “sea–land gradient” pattern of coastal zones. Using Dongying City in the Yellow River Delta as a case study, the results show the following: (1) The SIR framework evaluation results demonstrate balanced and significant positive correlations with all dimensional indicators (r = 0.3~0.8), showing greater comprehensiveness and scientific validity than traditional evaluation methods, with 81% spatial agreement between identified extremely important areas and existing protected areas. (2) From 2000 to 2020, the overall ecological importance of Dongying City showed an upward trend, with the proportion of extremely important areas significantly increasing from 6.03% to 10.24%, while maintaining a stable spatial gradient pattern of “high along the coast, low inland”. (3) The improvement in ecological importance in coastal core areas mainly resulted from state improvement and resilience enhancement driven by restoration projects such as “aquaculture retreat and wetland restoration”, while inland areas were constrained by both habitat fragmentation and ecological supply-demand mismatch. This study confirms that the SIR framework can accurately capture the spatial heterogeneity of coastal zones. The proposed “core protection-corridor restoration-function enhancement” hierarchical and zonal spatial governance strategy provides scientific evidence and actionable spatial guidance for coastal territorial spatial planning, ecological protection redline optimization, and targeted ecological restoration. A systematic assessment of the human settlement suitability (HSS) and its structural resilience in metropolitan areas, from a spatial network perspective, is essential for understanding the spatial organization and evolutionary mechanisms of regional human settlement systems. It also supports the high-quality development of metropolitan areas. This study considers the Shenyang Metropolitan Area as the research object and constructs a comprehensive evaluation model of HSS from two dimensions: natural environmental suitability (NES) and human environmental suitability (HES). This study systematically analyzes the spatial distribution pattern of HSS, characteristics of its spatial association network, and its structural resilience, by integrating a modified gravity model, social network analysis (SNA), and structural resilience measurement methods. The results indicate that NES exhibits a high-west to low-east gradient, with high-value areas primarily located in peripheral regions with better ecological conditions. HES reveals a pronounced core–periphery structure, with high suitability concentrated in core cities and their adjacent suburban areas. Under the combined influence of NES and HES, the HSS forms a layered differentiation pattern dominated by core cities. The spatial association network of HSS has an overall low density and displays the coexistence of a core–periphery structure and proximity dependence, in which the HES network demonstrates strong cross-node transmission capacity, while the NES network is significantly constrained by geographical proximity. The structural resilience of the network is characterized by a moderate hierarchy, predominantly homophilic matching, limited transmission efficiency, and pronounced spatial differentiation in aggregation, indicating an overall pattern of highly connected cores with low aggregation and moderately or weakly connected nodes with high aggregation. The findings provide a scientific basis for optimizing the human settlements and enhancing regional resilience governance in metropolitan areas, while offering a novel analytical perspective for research on human settlement systems. This paper investigates the anthropological and ethical roots of the global ecological and social crisis, centered on Pope Francis’s critique of the “throwaway culture” (Laudato Si’, LS). While LS identifies this crisis in the linear “take–make–dispose” model and the technocratic paradigm—which prioritizes efficiency over moral reflection—this research argues that these macro-societal failures originate in a foundational spiritual pathology: concupiscence. Drawing upon St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body (TOB), we analyze concupiscence as “appropriation,” the direct antithesis to the human vocation of the “sincere gift of self.” This study aligns LS’s socio-economic critique with Karol Wojtyła’s personalist anthropology, asserting that the systemic exploitation of nature and the marginalization of the vulnerable are structural extensions of the human failure to reread the “language of the body” in truth. The throwaway culture is thus revealed as an axiological reduction—a societal manifestation of lust that reduces both the body and creation to mere objects of utility. Consequently, a genuine ecological conversion (LS) necessitates embracing the “ethos of redemption” (TOB). This transformation of desire is essential to restoring the harmony between humanity and nature, recognizing that the ‘cry of the earth’ and the ‘cry of the poor’ are inextricably linked within an integral ecology. Introduction: Early warning systems reduce losses when risk knowledge, forecasting, communication, and response planning operate as an end-to-end chain, yet Gulf Coast warning practice often treats hazard dynamics, ecosystem change, and social vulnerability as separate domains. This study mapped operational early warning systems for climate-relevant hazards across Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida and examined whether ecosystem protective functions and social vulnerability were integrated into warning thresholds, dissemination design, and preparedness planning. Methods: I conducted a scoping review using the Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus for publications from 2020 through 18 January 2026 and targeted searches of NOAA/NWS/NHC, FEMA IPAWS, CDC/ATSDR SVI, IOOS/GCOOS, USGS, and state coastal agency portals between 15 September 2025 and 18 January 2026. Of 861 identified records, 440 duplicates were removed, 421 titles and abstracts were screened, 121 full texts were assessed, and 25 sources were included in the final charting and synthesis. Results: The review identified 11 operational systems and related platforms spanning the four early warning pillars, but routine socio-ecological integration remained limited. Louisiana showed the strongest documentation of ecosystem monitoring through CPRA and CRMS, while Florida and Texas showed more developed evacuation and dissemination interfaces. Mississippi and Alabama were represented by thinner monitoring and implementation records in the included sample. Across states, ecosystem loss and social vulnerability were used more often as planning context than as repeatable inputs to thresholds, message tailoring, or assistance triggers. Discussion: Gulf Coast practices can be strengthened through formal protocols that connect ecosystem condition and vulnerability indicators to impact-based briefings, multilingual and accessible alert workflows, and tract-sensitive preparedness actions. The findings indicate that implementation can advance by linking existing datasets to defined operational decisions and by evaluating warning performance through reach, accessibility, comprehension, and action feasibility, as well as technical accuracy. The synergistic management of water resources, the water environment, and the water ecology system (“Three-waters” system) is fundamental to ensuring regional water security and advancing sustainable development. However, existing evaluation indicator systems rely on expert experience and lack quantitative screening criteria, leading to indicator overlap and insufficient representativeness, which restricts the scientificity of management decisions. The study proposes a method integrating meta-analysis with case verification to construct an indicator system. A systematic review of 60 publications (1970–2024) from the Web of Science was conducted and a random effects model was used to merge effect sizes and quantify correlations and heterogeneity between indicators and the “Three-waters” system. The results indicate that the industrial water use proportion (R = −0.77) is the main stress factor in the water resources system, the negative effect of total hardness (R = −0.91) is the most significant in the water environment system, the contribution of the benthic diversity index (R = 0.90) is the most prominent in the water ecology system and vegetation coverage (R = 0.74) exhibits a strong positive effect in the social economic system. The case verification confirms the indicator system established under this method is consistent with the actual situation. This study provides methodological support for system diagnosis, coordinated regulation, and policy formulation, promoting the transformation from single-element to systemic water management. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rise of new forms of productive forces, the ways humans interact with space, objects, and information are being profoundly reshaped, bringing unprecedented possibilities for upgrading interactive spaces—human settlements that integrate physical and digital environments. Against this background, using the literature on interactive space research from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection between 1990 and 2025 as the data source, this study employs CiteSpace software to generate scientific knowledge maps, analyzing the historic development, hotspots, and trends in the research of interactive space, providing both theoretical and data support. In terms of results, a total of 458 papers were collected, demonstrating a consistent year-on-year increase. The research spans multiple fields, including computer science, architecture, ecology, physics, design, and behavioristics. Specifically, results indicate that research hotspots in interactive spaces include collaborative governance, social coexistence, and sustainable renewal, all of which are highly relevant to activating human settlements. The vitality of interactive spaces can be constructed across multiple dimensions, (for instance, enhancement based on ecology, environment, culture, and other factors of the space). However, research on interactive spaces still suffers from a lack of interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-domain integration; therefore, it is essential to strengthen cooperation among relevant fields. Current research lacks interdisciplinary integration and dynamic response mechanisms. Based on these findings, this study, through visual analysis, reveals the research hotspots and evolutionary trajectory of interactive spaces and proposes a “technology–humanism–governance” trinity framework. This system should be based on technology as the means, humanism as the guiding principle, and effective governance as the goal. It aims to explore how to leverage the service-oriented and convenient nature of technology in interactive spaces to deepen human-centric design and thereby drive the optimization of systems. Based on these findings, future research on interactive spaces should shift its design philosophy to be more human-centric, establish a multidisciplinary research system, utilize local empirical cases, and develop scalable, applicable theories to construct harmonious, open spaces, enhance human–environment relationships, and provide other countries undergoing urbanization with practical solutions. Against the backdrop of global sustainable development and ecological civilization construction, tourism ecological security at cultural landscape heritage sites faces both opportunities and challenges. This study constructs a cultural landscape heritage tourism ecological security (CLHTES) evaluation system based on the Driver–Pressure–State–Impact–Response (DPSIR) framework. It dynamically assesses CLHTES in the Yangtze River Delta Integrated Demonstration Zone (YRDIDZ) from 2014 to 2023 using the entropy-weighted Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and linear stretching transformation, identifies obstacle factors with the obstacle degree model, and predicts CLHTES trends for 2024–2030 using a radial basis function (RBF) neural network. Results show that: (1) The CLHTES index in the YRDIDZ presented a three-stage fluctuating upward trend during 2014–2023, with medium-clustered security levels and divergent evolution across the DPSIR criteria layers; (2) CLHTES obstacles feature a multi-level differentiated structure, with rising barriers in D and P layers, the R layer as the future core obstacle, and high-frequency barriers concentrated in cultural and social indicators; (3) Under the assumption of structural continuity in current trajectories, the conditional trend projection suggests that the CLHTES index of the YRDIDZ may sustain a general upward tendency during 2024–2030, with a possibility of approaching Level Ⅶ after 2028; however, these projections should be interpreted as exploratory and scenario-like rather than as robust forecasts, given the short annual series and the absence of exogenous disturbance variables. This study explores tourism-ecology interactions from a social-ecological complex system perspective, supporting synergistic tourism development and ecological protection of cultural landscape heritage. Logistics platforms (LPs) increasingly use multidimensional data to provide supply chain financing (SCF) to small and micro logistics enterprises (SMLEs). However, platform-centered data control can weaken financial institutions’ (FIs’) trust in platform data, thereby reducing the effectiveness of data-driven credit enhancement. To address this issue, this study integrates the social–ecological systems framework with evolutionary game theory and develops a tripartite evolutionary game involving FIs, LPs, and SMLEs. By comparing scenarios with and without regulatory governance, the study examines how regulatory governance affects the strategic evolution of data-driven credit enhancement in SCF for SMLEs. The results show that regulatory governance improves system performance through cost reduction, trust enhancement, and incentive alignment, thereby relaxing the conditions required for the system to evolve toward the Pareto-optimal state of credit granting, strict supervision, and non-default. The strategic choices of the three actors are mainly influenced by data acquisition costs, incentive intensity, and penalties. Numerical simulations further show that government incentives must exceed certain thresholds to promote cooperation, while penalty mechanisms play a critical role in constraining opportunistic behavior and accelerating convergence to the desirable equilibrium. These findings provide theoretical support and practical insights for improving data-driven credit enhancement in SCF for SMLEs. Full article

This article critically examines the evolving integration of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) into green infrastructure (GI) concepts, a discussion gaining relevance amid geopolitical instability and global disruptions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. These events have exposed food systems' vulnerability and reinforced the importance of preserving fertile urban and peri-urban land to enhance food security and sovereignty. UPA’s capacity to deliver several ecosystem services further reinforces its significance for socio-environmental policies. Based on a cross-disciplinary literature review, the study traces the conceptual evolution of GI from early models that separated agricultural and urban landscapes to contemporary frameworks that position agriculture as a central dimension of urban systems. It then analyses concepts such as Continuous Productive Urban Landscapes (CPUL), Edible GI, and Agroecological Urbanism, evaluating how they intersect with the core landscape ecology principles underpinning GI: multifunctionality, connectivity and spatial heterogeneity. Focusing on the European context, the discussion highlights key factors influencing GI-UPA integration: the definition of production model, the planning approaches guiding its development, and the policy frameworks required to support it. The paper concludes that embedding UPA within GI planning is pivotal to advancing integrative, resilient, and socially just urban greening strategies. Full article

New quality productive forces are increasingly recognized as important drivers of coordinated regional development, with urban agglomerations acting as key vehicles for their spatial implementation. Based on the theory of new quality productive forces, this study takes the 13 cities in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) urban agglomeration as its research subjects, spanning the period from 2005 to 2023, and constructs a four-dimensional evaluation index system for new quality productive forces covering economic, social, ecological, and technological dimensions. It employs the entropy method to determine indicator weights and calculate development indices for each dimension and utilizes a coupling coordination model to measure the overall and subsystem-level coordination by analyzing their spatiotemporal evolution characteristics. The results indicate a steady upward trend in the overall coordination level, progressing from a low level to an intermediate level, with the state of coordination continuously improving; spatial differentiation is significant, forming a gradient development pattern centered on Beijing, with marked disparities in coordination levels among cities. Subsystem analysis reveals an imbalanced synergy structure: while economic and ecological synergy levels are relatively high, the coupling and synergy between science and technology and the economy and society remain prominent weaknesses. Most cities in Hebei Province lack sufficient scientific and technological innovation capabilities, resulting in a weak supportive role for economic and social development. Based on these findings, this study proposes policy recommendations such as establishing a regional innovation community, promoting the integration of factor markets, and strengthening collaborative governance of the ecological environment, with the aim of leveraging new quality productive forces to drive a qualitative leap in the coordinated development of the BTH urban agglomeration. Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) is cardinal to natural resource management, and its resilience in protected areas (PAs) depends on its continued practice. The changing socio-ecological landscape has given rise to new PAs that emphasise community participation, like Simalaha Community Conservancy (SCC), versus state-owned, like Liuwa Plain National Park (LPNP). Resilience was assessed by comparing TEK awareness, utilisation, and perceived effectiveness between LPNP and SCC. Three categories of TEK (rules and regulations; myths and taboos; and customs and rituals) were analysed using a blended analytical framework drawing on the knowledge–practice–belief complex and a social–ecological systems perspective. A structured questionnaire was administered to 427 respondents, and data were analysed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. TEK awareness was high, but significantly higher in LPNP than in SCC. Age and length of residence were strongly associated with knowledge, confirming older and long-term residents as key knowledge-holders. Rules and regulations were widely recognised and utilised, while customs and rituals, and myths and taboos, were variable. LPNP showed higher utilisation and perceived effectiveness of TEK, particularly among younger cohorts. These findings highlight the influence of conservation governance and intergenerational knowledge transmission on TEK resilience, underscoring the need to strengthen its integration in emerging PAs. This study investigates European citizens’ perspectives on farmers’ roles, highlighting gender, age, education, political orientation, community size, social class, and attitudes towards the EU. This study was developed using 21,002 interviews with European Citizens from all 27 EU countries. A quantitative data analysis methodology was used from the European Eurobarometer 97.1 survey. Seven models were formulated and tested. It is shown that men prioritise economic growth and food stability, while women emphasise environmental protection and animal welfare. Younger individuals focus on rural job creation, whereas older citizens value food security. Higher education levels correlate with environmental and animal welfare concerns. Right-leaning citizens favour economic development, whereas left-leaning individuals prioritise ecological issues. Larger communities emphasise economic growth, while smaller ones focus on environmental preservation. Social class influences priorities, with higher classes concerned about sustainability and lower classes about job creation. Pessimistic views about the EU correlate with food safety concerns, while optimistic views align with environmental and animal welfare priorities. These findings suggest that aligning agricultural and food policies with citizens’ diverse needs can foster a more sustainable and resilient European food system. Full article

Lean production philosophy and sustainability approach have become a critical framework for efficiency improvement, waste reduction, and promoting sustainable manufacturing practices. In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), there is a synergy, which has now found new dimensions, data-driven decision-making, predictive analytics, and operational agility. AI technologies promise to transform industrial processes by converging lean production and sustainability principles, a synergy explored in this paper. AI APIs enable the use of AI to improve resource utilization, reduce environmental pressure, and maintain economic growth inherent to all business sectors while also fostering social accountability. In this study, a robust regression model is employed to study the role of AI in moderating the lean practices and sustainability outcomes relationship, using a sample of 528 manufacturing firms. The results show that the contribution of AI technologies to economic, ecological, and social sustainability is effectively multiplied by that of lean production. This research offers a framework to help practitioners and policymakers optimize production systems in line with Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, the study delivers actionable recommendations for navigating skill gaps and cybersecurity risks that were identified. In sum, this paper contributes to the rapidly emerging conversation by providing empirical evidence on AI’s moderating role in the lean–sustainability relationship and offering a strategic framework for practitioners. Contemporary societies are facing converging crises, including environmental degradation, worsening social inequalities, aging populations, and increasingly costly healthcare systems, prompting sustainable health to be proposed as an integrative conceptual perspective for rethinking health, its determinants, and collective action. This narrative review aims to trace the historical evolution of the concept, clarify the vision it offers for public health, and identify its implications for research, policy, and intervention. A literature search (May 2025) was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Google, with no restrictions on language, time period, or document type. Of 40 relevant documents, 21 were selected for in-depth analysis by two independent reviewers, with duplicate data extraction. The results show that sustainable health broadens the World Health Organisation (WHO) definition of health by incorporating sustainability, intergenerational justice, ecological limits, and social equity. Close to, but distinct from Planetary Health, One Health, and EcoHealth, sustainable health is based on ecological, social and ethical, economic, behavioral, intergenerational, and systemic/intersectoral dimensions. Sustainable health thus emerges as a systemic and transdisciplinary conceptual approach for transforming health systems, living environments, and public policy, requiring further conceptual clarification, robust interdisciplinary research programs, and intersectoral initiatives involving communities. Narrowing the Gap: Spatiotemporal Evolution, Convergence, and Policy Implications of China’s Green Inclusive Growth

Green inclusive growth is a crucial strategic choice for achieving high-quality development in China. This study constructs an indicator system encompassing economic, social, and ecological dimensions to quantitatively measure the level of green inclusive growth across 31 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in China from 2001 to 2021. The regional disparities, spatiotemporal evolution trends, and convergence characteristics are analyzed using the Dagum Gini coefficient, kernel density function, and σ-convergence and conditional β-convergence. The findings indicate the following: (1) China’s green inclusive growth generally exhibits a “high in the east, low in the west” spatial distribution pattern, with western regions demonstrating a catching-up trend. (2) The regional disparities in China’s green inclusive growth levels are showing a trend of gradual narrowing, though imbalances within eastern and western regions remain relatively pronounced. (3) The kernel density curve of China’s green inclusive growth maintains a “unimodal” shape, with no significant polarization or multi-polar differentiation. (4) Both the national level and the four major regional clusters exhibit σ-convergence and conditional β-convergence in green inclusive growth, demonstrating the effectiveness of policies aimed at reducing regional disparities. (5) Social capital, human capital, technological innovation, material capital investment, foreign direct investment, urbanization level, and government fiscal expenditure all have a positive promoting effect on China’s green and inclusive growth. These results provide decision-making references for promoting coordinated regional development and guiding the inclusive and green transformation of China’s economic growth. Full article
