The emergence of bacterial resistance has spurred an urgent need to develop effective alternatives to traditional antibiotics. Phenylethyl alcohol from plants exhibits potential antimicrobial properties, but its efficacy is limited due to its compromised dispersion in water and structural stability in ambient conditions. Herein, for the first time, a polymerization-induced self-assembly strategy was employed to obtain different morphological nanogels with phenylethyl alcohol moieties as hydrophobic cores through in situ reversible addition–fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The well-defined copolymers of PTEGx-co-PPMAy with controllable molecular weights and narrow polydispersity were confirmed by a combination of techniques. The generated phenylethyl alcohol-based nanogels demonstrated potent antibacterial activity, particularly PTEG30-co-PPMA70 with a one-dimensional linear architecture, which achieved a minimum inhibitory concentration of 62 μg mL−1 against E. coli. SEM revealed membrane disruption as the bactericidal mechanism, highlighting enhanced efficacy against Gram-negative bacteria due to structural differences in cell envelopes. This study establishes a robust platform for designing phenylethyl alcohol-based nanogels with controllable structures toward achieving potent antimicrobial performance, offering a promising strategy for combating bacterial resistance while addressing the dilemma of conventional antibiotic drug systems. This review summarizes the recent advances in the application of nanomaterial coatings in optical fiber sensors, with a particular focus on deposition techniques and the research progress over the past five years in humidity sensing, gas detection, and biosensing. Benefiting from the high specific surface area, abundant surface active sites, and quantum confinement effects of nanomaterials, advanced thin-film fabrication techniques—including spin coating, dip coating, self-assembly, physical/chemical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition (ALD), electrochemical deposition (ECD), electron beam evaporation (E-beam evaporation), pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and electrospinning, and other techniques—have been widely employed in the construction of functional layers for optical fiber sensors, significantly enhancing their sensitivity, response speed, and environmental stability. Studies have demonstrated that nanocoatings can achieve high-sensitivity detection of targets such as humidity, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and biomarkers by enhancing evanescent field coupling and enabling optical effects such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR), localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), and lossy mode resonance (LMR). This paper first analyzes the principles and optimization strategies of nanocoating fabrication techniques, then explores the mechanisms by which nanomaterials enhance sensor performance across various application domains, and finally presents future research directions in material performance optimization, cost control, and the development of novel nanocomposites. These insights provide a theoretical foundation for the functional design and practical implementation of nanomaterial-based optical fiber sensors. Full article

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the color stability and microhardness of two resin composites, a BPA-based composite (Luna) and a BPA-free composite (Luna 2), after immersion in chlorhexidine (CHX), using two different polishing protocols. Methods: Disks (7 mm diameter × 2 mm thickness) were prepared and divided into three groups per material: unpolished, Sof-Lex, and FlexiDisc polished (n = 20 per group). The specimens were immersed daily in either 0.12% CHX or distilled water for 21 days. Color change (ΔE) was measured at 7, 14, and 21 days using a spectrophotometer. Microhardness was evaluated at each time point using a Vickers hardness tester (200 g load, 10 s dwell time). Results: Luna 2 exhibited significant discoloration from day 14, while Luna showed significant color change on day 21 (p < 0.05). After 21 days of CHX immersion, unpolished Luna reached a ΔE value of 6.27 ± 1.69, exceeding the clinically acceptable threshold. At 14 days, Sof-Lex polishing significantly improved color stability compared to unpolished controls for both materials (p < 0.05). No significant differences were observed between the two polishing systems over time (p > 0.05). Luna 2 demonstrated significantly higher microhardness at all evaluated time points (p < 0.001). Both composites exhibited slight reductions in microhardness over time, which were more pronounced in Luna (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Polishing enhanced the color stability of both composites. Luna 2 exhibited superior microhardness compared to Luna, and polishing had no significant effect on this property. Given the increasing clinical shift toward BPA-free materials due to biocompatibility concerns, these findings offer relevant guidance for optimizing the long-term esthetic and mechanical performance of modern resin-based restorations. The transient performance of sensorless control for interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs), based on back-electromotive force (back-EMF) estimation, is a critical factor in ensuring the high reliability of motor drive systems. Although rotor speed and position can be accurately estimated under steady-state conditions, estimation errors tend to increase during transient states such as acceleration, deceleration, and load torque variations. The enhancement of transient stability is closely related to the overshoot in the estimated position and speed errors. In this paper, the maximum overshoot of the estimated position and speed errors during transient operation is analyzed. Furthermore, compensation strategies are proposed to reduce the magnitude of these overshoots. The effectiveness of the proposed sensorless control method is validated through comparative analysis with existing approaches. Full article

This study focuses on the power systems of inland waterway vessels in Chinese Yangtze River, systematically outlining the low-carbon technology pathways for different power system types. A comparative analysis is conducted on the technical feasibility, emission reduction potential, and economic viability of LNG, methanol, ammonia, pure electric and hybrid power systems, revealing the bottlenecks hindering the large-scale application of each system. Key findings indicate that: (1) LNG and methanol fuels offer significant short-term emission reductions in internal combustion engine power systems, yet face constraints from methane slip and insufficient green methanol production capacity, respectively; (2) ammonia enables zero-carbon operations but requires breakthroughs in combustion stability and synergistic control of NOX; (3) electric vessels show high decarbonization potential, but battery energy density limits their range, while PEMFC lifespan constraints and SOFC thermal management deficiencies impede commercialization; (4) hybrid/range-extended power systems, with superior energy efficiency and lower retrofitting costs, serve as transitional solutions for existing vessels, though challenged by inadequate energy management strategies and multi-equipment communication protocol interoperability. A phased transition pathway is proposed: LNG/methanol engines and hybrid systems dominate during 2025–2030; ammonia-powered systems and solid-state batteries scale during 2030–2035; post-2035 operations achieve zero-carbon shipping via green hydrogen/ammonia. Climate change is having a significant impact on vine physiology and grape composition, leading to notable alterations in wine quality, such as reduced acidity, increased ethanol content, and higher pH levels. These effects are particularly problematic in arid and semi-arid regions, such as Mediterranean areas, where high summer temperatures and low rainfall accelerate the degradation of organic acids in grapes. As a result, wines produced under these conditions often lack the acidity required to preserve their freshness and enological quality. This study evaluated the effect of must acidification using cation-exchange resins on the composition and quality of red wines made from the Monastrell variety, comparing them with wines acidified using tartaric acid to reach the same target pH. The results showed that treating a portion of the must (20% and 30%) with cation-exchange resins significantly reduced wine pH values and increased total acidity compared to the control wine. A similar result was observed in wines acidified with tartaric acid. However, as an additional effect, the treatment with resin more markedly reduced the concentration of pro-oxidant metal cations such as iron, copper, and manganese, contributing to lower values of volatile acidity and a greater stability against oxidation of phenolic compounds. Must acidification with both methods improved wine color quality by increasing color intensity and decreasing hue values. Although no significant differences were found in the total concentration of phenolic compounds, variations were detected in their compositional profile. Furthermore, the acidification also affected the concentration and composition of aromatic compounds in the final wine. Sensory analysis revealed that the treated wines—particularly those made with must acidified using cation-exchange resins—exhibited greater aromatic intensity, more pronounced fruity notes, and reduced astringency, resulting in a fresher mouthfeel. In conclusion, must treatment with cation-exchange resins appears to be a low-cost good alternative compared tartaric acid addition for reducing pH and increasing acidity in Monastrell red wines, thereby enhancing their quality in winegrowing regions with arid or semi-arid climates. L-carnitine supplementation enhances fatty acid oxidation and antioxidant defense mechanisms in livestock. Twenty-four wether lambs were randomly assigned to one of three dietary treatments: a control (basal diet), a low-L-carnitine diet (0.01%), or a high-L-carnitine diet (0.05%). After a 15-day adaptation period, all lambs underwent a 45-day experimental phase to assess the impact of L-carnitine supplementation on performance, carcass, muscle, and antioxidant capacity. Although growth performance did not show significant differences (p > 0.05), muscle pH increased in the L-carnitine group (p < 0.05), while drip loss decreased in both the low- and high-dose groups (p < 0.05). The a* value of the Longissimus dorsi muscle significantly increased (p < 0.01), enhancing meat color saturation (p < 0.05), with a reduction in the hue angle observed in the high-dose group (p < 0.01). L-carnitine supplementation led to an elevated myoglobin content and a higher proportion of oxymyoglobin, driven by a significant increase in MRA activity (p < 0.01). The concentration of L-carnitine was positively correlated with the a* value, which in turn was associated with higher total myoglobin content and a greater proportion of oxymyoglobin. In terms of antioxidant capacity, the L-carnitine group exhibited a significant increase in superoxide dismutase content. Moreover, there was upregulation of TFR1 and CAT expression at the mRNA level, while HEPH showed downregulation (p < 0.01). Significant increases were observed in both content and mRNA expression of LDHB and NADHBR5 (p < 0.01). The addition of 0.05% L-carnitine to the diet significantly enhanced muscle color stability in hybrid sheep. This improvement was primarily driven by a significant increase in MRA activity in the high-dose group, which facilitated the conversion of metmyoglobin to oxymyoglobin, thereby significantly boosting meat quality prospects for the sheep industry. Elevated phosphorus levels in wastewater created significant environmental concerns, including the degradation of surrounding soil structure, inhibition of plant growth, and potential threats to human health. To address this issue, a self-standing nanofibrous composite membrane based on PA-66/PVA-15%La(OH)3 was fabricated via electrospinning, followed by glutaraldehyde (GA) crosslinking and alkali hydrolysis to create an interpenetrating structure, where PA-66 provided the overall mechanical strength of the membrane, while La served as a functional component for the adsorption of phosphate. The chemical composition, surface morphology, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of the resulting membranes were characterized using ATR-FTIR, SEM, TGA, and tensile testing, respectively. Furthermore, the adsorption performance of the membranes was evaluated systematically through static and dynamic adsorption. The Langmuir isotherm model yielded a theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 21.39 mg/g for phosphate ions. Notably, over 96% of this capacity was retained even in the presence of interfering ions. Moreover, dynamic adsorption experiments demonstrated that the membrane can deal with 1.74 L of phosphate-containing wastewater at a low flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and 1.46 L at a high flow rate of 2.0 mL/min, respectively, while consistently maintaining a phosphate removal efficiency exceeding 90%. A controlled release of phosphate ions from a phosphate-adsorbed membrane was successfully demonstrated using Mougeotia cultivation, implying the potential for phosphorus resource recovery. As wind energy development continues to expand toward nearshore and deep-sea regions, enhancing the aerodynamic efficiency of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) in complex marine environments has become a critical challenge. To address this, a composite flow control strategy combining leading-edge suction and trailing-edge gurney flap is proposed. A two-dimensional unsteady numerical simulation framework is established based on CFD and the four-equation Transition SST (TSST) transition model. The key control parameters, including the suction slot position and width as well as the gurney flap height and width, are systematically optimized through orthogonal experimental design. The aerodynamic performance under single (suction or gurney flap) and composite control schemes is comprehensively evaluated. Results show that leading-edge suction effectively delays flow separation, while the gurney flap improves aerodynamic characteristics in the downwind region. Their synergistic effect significantly suppresses blade load fluctuations and enhances the wake structure, thereby improving wind energy capture. Compared to all other configurations, including suction-only and gurney flap-only blades, the composite control blade achieves the most significant increase in power coefficient across the entire tip speed ratio range, with an average improvement of 67.24%, demonstrating superior aerodynamic stability and strong potential for offshore applications. This study investigates reading performances and eye movements in individuals with eccentric fixation due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Overall, 17 individuals with bilateral AMD (7 males; mean age 77.47 ± 5.96 years) and 17 controls (10 males; mean age 72.18 ± 5.98 years) were assessed for reading visual acuity (VA), reading speed (Minnesota low vision reading chart in Slovene, MNREAD-SI), and near contrast sensitivity (Pelli-Robson). Microperimetry (NIDEK MP-3) was used to evaluate preferential retinal locus (PRL) location and fixation stability. Eye movements were recorded with Tobii Pro-glasses 2 and analyzed for reading duration, saccade amplitude, peak velocity, number of saccades, saccade duration, and fixation duration. Individuals with AMD exhibited significantly reduced reading indices (worse reading VA (p < 0.001), slower reading (p < 0.001), and lower near contrast sensitivity (p < 0.001)). Eye movement analysis revealed prolonged reading duration, longer fixation duration, and an increased number of saccades in individuals with AMD per paragraph. The number of saccades per paragraph was significantly correlated with all measured reading indices. These findings provide insights into reading adaptations in AMD. Simultaneously, the proposed approach in analyzing eye movements puts forward eye trackers as a prospective diagnostic tool in ophthalmology. Full article

This study develops a machine learning potential (MLP) based on the Moment Tensor Potential (MTP) method for the TaN-Ce system. This potential is employed to investigate the interfacial structure and wetting behavior between liquid Ce and solid TaN. Molecular dynamics (MDs) simulations reveal that liquid Ce exhibits significant wetting on the TaN surface at high temperatures. The interfacial region undergoes pre-melting and component interdiffusion, forming an amorphous transition layer. Nitrogen atoms display high diffusivity, leading to surface mass loss, while tantalum atoms demonstrate excellent thermal stability and penetration resistance. These findings provide theoretical support for the design of interfacial materials and corrosion control in high-temperature metallurgy. Full article

In the mining of deep mineral resources and tunnel engineering, the degradation of mechanical properties and the evolution of energy of through-double-joint sandy slate under triaxial loading and unloading conditions are key scientific issues affecting the stability design of the project. The existing research has insufficiently explored the joint inclination angle effect, damage evolution mechanism, and energy distribution characteristics of this type of rock mass under the path of increasing axial pressure and removing confining pressure. Based on this, in this study, uniaxial compression, conventional triaxial compression and increasing axial pressure, and removing confining pressure tests were conducted on four types of rock-like materials with prefabricated 0°, 30°, 60°, and 90° through-double-joint inclinations under different confining pressures. The axial stress/strain curve, failure characteristics, and energy evolution law were comprehensively analyzed, and damage variables based on dissipated energy were proposed. The test results show that the joint inclination angle significantly affects the bearing capacity of the specimen, and the peak strength shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increase in the inclination angle. In terms of failure modes, the specimens under conventional triaxial compression exhibit progressive compression/shear failure (accompanied by rock bridge fracture zones), while under increased axial compression and relief of confining pressure, a combined tensioning and shear failure is induced. Moreover, brittleness is more pronounced under high confining pressure, and the joint inclination angle also has a significant control effect on the failure path. In terms of energy, under the same confining pressure, as the joint inclination angle increases, the dissipated energy and total energy of the cemented filling body at the end of triaxial compression first decrease and then increase. The triaxial compression damage constitutive model of jointed rock mass established based on dissipated energy can divide the damage evolution into three stages: initial damage, damage development, and accelerated damage growth. Verified by experimental data, this model can well describe the damage evolution characteristics of rock masses with different joint inclination angles. Moreover, an increase in the joint inclination angle will lead to varying degrees of damage during the loading process of the rock mass. The research results can provide key theoretical support and design basis for the stability assessment of surrounding rock in deep and high-stress plateau tunnels, the optimization of support parameters for jointed rock masses, and early warning of rockburst disasters. With the continuous increase in renewable energy penetration, traditional frequency regulation strategies in power grids struggle to maintain frequency stability under high renewable-share conditions. To address the shortcomings of the current deadband settings in regional grid frequency regulation, this paper proposes an optimized deadband-configuration scheme for renewable energy power plants and evaluates its effectiveness in enhancing the frequency regulation potential of renewable units. By developing frequency response models for thermal power, wind power, photovoltaic generation, and energy storage, the impact of different deadband widths on dynamic frequency response and steady-state deviation is analyzed. Three representative output scenarios for renewable units are constructed, and under each scenario the coordinated control performance of the proposed and the existing deadband configurations is compared. Simulation studies are then conducted based on a typical high renewable penetration scenario. The results show that, compared with the existing regional-grid deadband settings, the proposed configuration more fully exploits the regulation potential of renewable units, improves overall frequency-response capability, significantly reduces frequency deviations, and shortens recovery time. This research provides both theoretical foundations and practical guidance for frequency-support provision by renewable energy power plants under high penetration conditions. Full article

The Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Mega Region (CCEMR), as a strategic economic hub
inWestern China, is increasingly facing challenges in balancing urban growth, agricultural
stability, and ecological conservation within its territorial spatial planning framework. This
study addresses the critical need to integrate multidimensional resilience assessment into
China’s territorial spatial planning system. A framework for functional resilience assessment
was developed through integrated GIS spatial analysis, with three resilience dimensions
explicitly aligned to China’s “Three Zones and Three Lines” (referring to urban, agricultural,
and ecological space and spatial control lines) territorial planning system: urban resilience
was evaluated using KL-TOPSIS ranking, where weights were derived from combined Delphi
expert consultation and AHP; agricultural resilience was quantified through the entropy
method for weight determination and GIS raster calculation; and ecological resilience was
assessed via a Risk–Recovery–Potential (RRP) model integrating Ecosystem Risk, Recovery
Capacity (ERC), and Service Value (ESV) metrics, implemented through GIS spatial analysis
and raster operations. Significant spatial disparities emerge, with only 1.29% of CCEMR
exhibiting high resilience (concentrated in integrated urban–ecological zones like Chengdu).
Rural and mountainous areas demonstrate moderate-to-low resilience due to resource constraints,
creating misalignments between resilience patterns and current territorial spatial
zoning schemes. These findings provide scientific evidence for optimizing the delineation
of the Three Major Spatial Patterns: urbanized areas, major agricultural production zones,
and ecological functional zones. In this research, a transformative methodology is established
for translating resilience diagnostics directly into territorial spatial planning protocols. By
bridging functional resilience assessment with statutory zoning systems, this methodology
enables the following: (1) data-driven resilience construction for the Three Major Spatial
Patterns (urbanized areas, major agricultural production zones, and ecological functional
zones); (2) strategic infrastructure prioritization; and (3) enhanced cross-jurisdictional coordination
mechanisms. The framework positions spatial planning as a proactive tool for adaptive
territorial governance without requiring plan revision. Full article
