Advances in Nanofluids: Modelling, Simulations and Applications
This special issue belongs to the section "Theory and Simulation of Nanostructures".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Nowadays, nanofluids are attracting significant attention due to their enhanced thermal, rheological, and transport characteristics across a wide range of engineering applications. Recent advances in nanotechnology, multiscale modeling, and computational simulation have enabled a deeper understanding of nanofluid behavior under complex thermal, mechanical, and physicochemical operating conditions. Heat transfer enhancement remains a major research focus for several applications. In addition, growing interest has emerged in the rheology, mass transfer, and interfacial transport phenomena of nanofluids relevant to industrial, environmental and biomedical processes. Nanofluids are present in membrane separation and filtration technologies. Nanoparticle-enhanced fluids are finding important applications in mechanical processing, tribology, structural mechanics, additive manufacturing, and advanced material systems, where improved lubrication, wear resistance, and thermo-mechanical performance are required. In biomedical engineering, nanofluids are engaged in targeted drug delivery, enhanced bioimaging contrast, and improved thermal therapies. They are also being explored for biomedical device cooling, antimicrobial coatings, and improved transport phenomena in physiological and microfluidic systems. The integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and multiscale simulation approaches is expected to accelerate the design, optimization, and application of next-generation nanofluid systems for sustainable engineering solutions.
This Special Issue aims to publish high-quality original research and review articles on recent advances in the modeling, simulation, and multidisciplinary applications of nanofluids. We encourage authors to share their work on topics related to the above, including most notably:
- CFD, multiscale, and multiphysics modeling of nanofluid flows and transport phenomena;
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven optimization of nanofluid design and applications;
- Heat transfer enhancement and thermal transport mechanisms in nanofluids;
- Rheology, viscosity, stability, and mass transfer characteristics of nanofluids;
- Hybrid, ternary, bio-based, and multifunctional nanofluids;
- Using nanofluids to manage high heat fluxes in microprocessors, power electronics, and compact devices, improving thermal stability and performance reliability;
- Nanofluids in renewable and sustainable energy systems, soil and groundwater;
- Nanofluids in filtration, membrane separation and desalination technologies;
- Nanofluids in machining, tribology, additive manufacturing and advanced mechanical processing;
- Nanofluids in self-healing smart composites;
- Biomedical implants and microfluidics in biomedical engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
