There were no particular problems. Instead, I would like to congratulate your collaborator, namely Vivian Niu, for all the help given; even if she was going through some special moments in her life, she had the availability and the dedication to achieve a very good Special Issue. I’d like to congratulate her on this and would like to meet her face to face at a future conference to thank her.

I was contacted by the staff of the journal with a proposed topic (I could specify it further). I could invite some well-known researchers to publish free of charge (many colleagues appreciated that). I was asked to send invitations to potential contributors, beside the ones I invited free of charge. Overall I liked this experience.

We made a proposal for a Special Issue, and we then had a return from the editor’s office within a few days to inform us of our acceptance. Then, everything was taken care of with a colleague from MDPI and it was very effective. I can only recommend colleagues to come up with an SI.

I was strongly interested in collecting the papers focusing on the optics of liquid crystals for applications. I was very encouraged by the paper from Prof. Wu's group, whom I have always respected. I also found papers for a field with which I was not at all familiar, Which I enjoyed. During the process, I talked with quite a few researchers about their works and asked them about posting. A few people were able to, but it was a good experience. I think the open access system is very attractive for researchers who want to promote their technologies, especially to the industry. So, SIs which deal with applications should be very effective.

My experience is that it takes time and a lot of work. It is necessary to make many contacts and spread the interest of the volume among other scientists. You also have to find and select reviewers and supervise everything to get a volume with novel articles and scientific rigor. Throughout the process, the help of the assistant editor was essential.

The Special Issue of the journal creates a platform for the presentation of academic and praxeological experience in solving specific problems that are of interest to the general public and readers about trends. The journal allows for the exchange of experiences, but is often an inspiration for further scientific work. It supports talented individuals and teams, but especially interdisciplinary technical solutions that are also socially responsible for the environment and public health.

My colleagues and I have good experience with MDPI, but the last time we published our article "Evaluation of Toxic Properties of New Glycopeptide Flavancin on Rats", the impression was spoiled by the fact that low-quality microphotos were published. Prior to the publication of the article, we sent high-resolution photographs at the request of the editor. There was no response to our letter with a request to replace the photos.
