Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Only a new cyclic carbonate has been prepared for this submission, however I do appreciate the authors effort in improving the overall manuscript.

The authors response my request within reason.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

I have no further comments

This manuscript is a resubmission of an earlier submission. The following is a list of the peer review reports and author responses from that submission.

Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Salazar at al. describe the sysnthesis and characterization of Al complexes for the formation of cyclic carbonates for CO2 fixation. The paper is certainly dense and the general idea appeailing. Nevertheless, especially the results and discussion part must be more detailed. Experiments should be done using at least one different setup to confirm the conversion (i.e. different temperatures and CO2 pressures) At least twice the previous work of the group is cited but there is not concrete new discussion from paragraph 2.1. on. I strongly recommend revising all the conclusions carefully adding much more critic argument.

Some other points to be addressed:

-English must be carefully revised through all the manuscript

-Figure 3, FT-IT spectra of the ligands. The spectra are not very clear and not many conclusions can be seen based on that. I suggest to index the peak and to perform a baseline for both samples to highlight each functional group.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors describe an anpproach for CO2 fixation into cyclic carbonates, a promising, but well-studied approach for CO2 capture and usage. The authors obtained interesting and promising results, but the novelty and originalty of their approach is unclear. Do they get better results than other groups? Then, a comparison with other results is necessary. Could they synthesize other carbonates which cannot get with other catalysts? The authors are very focussed on their own results.

Sometimes, the manuscripts sounds like an experience report. It is interesting to participate in the thoughts of the authors, but a more neutral presentation of the results would be appreciated.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,

The manuscript by Ángela Mesías-Salazar al. reports on the tetranuclear alkyl aluminum adducts particularly with benzodiimidazole-diylidenes ligands were synthesized, and spectroscopically characterized. The obtained aluminum complexes had shown to be effective catalyst for the preparation of cyclic carbonates from terminal epoxides and CO2 using tetrabutylammonium iodide as cocatalyst under solvent-free conditions. It is interesting work, and well written manuscript, this material can be publishable in “Catalysts” journal, with minor language corrections.

Thanks!

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

I appreciate the new version of the manuscript and the work put in it, the overall writing certainly benefits from it and it is way clearer now. Authors really did put an effort on explain their findinds and it shows. However the confirmation of the synthesis of a novel tetranuclear alkyl aluminum adducts in comparison with all reported literature is not sufficient to justify a publication in Catalysts in my opinion. I hope the author will further improve the manuscript with new ligands for further multinuclear aluminum adducts

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors added the comparison with other results which improve the quality ot the manuscript. Unfortunaltely, the authors does not try to prepare other new cylcic carbonates which is planned. I propose a publication after doing this.
