Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The proposed study contributes to broadening the studies on "enriched teaching" through technologies in physical education and the role of augmented reality. The study is written correctly. The effects on motor learning and physical activity levels are the perspectives to be evaluated.

Answers to 1st reviewer’s comments

Thank you for your kind advice and comments for publication in Technology. I revised my manuscript as per your comments. I represented the specific modifications in response to the comments by blue letters in my manuscript. I sincerely appreciate your comments because your constructive feedback greatly improves my manuscript. The responses about what you pointed out as follows.

Q1: The proposed study contributes to broadening the studies on "enriched teaching" through technologies in physical education and the role of augmented reality. The study is written correctly. The effects on motor learning and physical activity levels are the perspectives to be evaluated.

Response 1: Thank you for your valuable comment. Following the reviewer's suggestion, the following content was inserted in lines 303-306 of the discussion section to reflect the reviewer's opinion.

Lines 303-306:

“… Meanwhile, it is necessary to reveal the effectiveness of motor learning for students after physical education class using metaverse. Moreover, it is considered necessary to evaluate students' physical activity levels after metaverse physical activity.”

Thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,

Reviewer 2 Report

This is a review article. The most important  provide concise and precise updates on the latest progress made in a given area of research. Systematic reviews should follow the PRISMA guidelines. The topic of this article is very interesting and will also arouse my interest  in  Metaverse technology. Below are a few observations on the study conducted. Some shortcomings are also mentioned in the observations.

1.It is suggested in the abstract that it can introduce metaverse types.

2. The results of the question of this study can be further explained and this should be highlighted given the title of the article. What specific improvements could the authors consider regarding the

methodology?

3.The references are appropriate but need to update your literature.

Answers to 2nd reviewer’s comments

Thank you for your kind advice and comments for publication in Technology. I revised my manuscript as per your comments. I represented the specific modifications in response to the comments by blue letters in my manuscript. I sincerely appreciate your comments because your constructive feedback greatly improves my manuscript. The responses about what you pointed out as follows.

Response: The reviewer recommended that this paper be written as a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines. However, as reviewers know, 'review papers' are divided into systematic review and critical literature review (or review paper). Among these, PRISMA has mainly focused on systematic reviews and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCT), but it can also be used as a basis for reporting reviews of other types of research. However, there are not many RCT papers related to the metaverse, so there seems to be a limit to writing a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines. If there is an opportunity, I will try to write a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines later as suggested by reviewers.

Q1: It is suggested in the abstract that it can introduce metaverse types.

Response 1: Thank you for your valuable comment. Following the reviewer's suggestion, the following content was added to the abstract.

Lines 11-12:

“… It can be classified into four categories: augmented reality, lifelogging, Mirror Worlds, and virtual worlds.”

In addition, the following content was added to the abstract.

Lines 12-15:

“Although it is reported that the potential of this metaverse is not small in the education world, the metaverse technology is already being used in the sports world, but concrete application methods have not been investigated. This study, which started with this purpose, can be summarized as follows.”

Q2. The results of the question of this study can be further explained and this should be highlighted given the title of the article. What specific improvements could the authors consider regarding the methodology?

Response 2: Thank you for your valuable comment. In consideration of the title of this thesis pointed out by the reviewer, the results of the research project were added for each part, and the method of applying the metaverse to the physical education curriculum was described. First, in consideration of the title of this thesis pointed out by the reviewer, the results of the research project are presented in line 64-66 as follows for each part, and the method of applying the metaverse to the physical education curriculum is described in lines 150-156.

Line 64-66:

“… In addition, this study tried to explore whether the four metaverse technologies can be used as a physical education curriculum..”

Line 150-156:

“… Virtual reality technology related to physical education has already been successful in VR boxing, VR tennis, and VR table tennis. In addition, augmented reality technologies such as screen golf, screen tennis, and screen baseball can be used as physical education curriculums. In particular, among metaverse technologies, lifelogging can be widely used in exercise physiology and training fields, and Mirror World also allows a professor and a large number of students to ride bicycles together and teach correct exercise methods on one screen...”

Line 264-267:

“This study was initiated to explore whether the four metaverse technologies can be applied as a physical education curriculum, and as a result, many metaverse technologies related to the field of physical education are already being used in the game industry and in the real life (smart watch, screen golf, etc.)....”

Q3. The references are appropriate but need to update your literature.

Response 3: Thank you for your valuable comment. The following papers were explored in the text and included in the references.

Lines 277-283:

“Recently, Wu and Gao (2022) suggested that in order for big data, artificial intelli-gence, blockchain and other digital technologies to become a multi-agent collaboration, a top-level design was strengthened by the government, a resource allocation optimized by the enterprise, and a safety awareness raised by the individual level [27]. Thomason (2021) suggested that metaverse technology will change health care methods in the future, and that this technology will lead to collaborative working, education; It was also claimed that it could be used in clinical care, wellness, and monetization [28].”

Lines 306-312:

“In the future, the metaverse technology will further evolve and advance into automation technology. In response, Li, Cui, and Jiang (2022) said that the success of AI in various fields and the development of information technology are making the sports industry and AI converge. In particular, they reported that traditional physical education is currently undergoing qualitative changes, and that the demands to incorporate artificial intelligence and metaverse into physical education are becoming more and more evident [36].”

Lines 312-315:

“…In any case, in order for the latest metaverse technology and future AI technology to be combined and fully utilized in the field of physical education, it is necessary to provide appropriate professional development to teachers with all levels of experience in the school field [37].”
