Dear Colleagues,
Seeds are the product of long-term plant evolution, preserving and transmitting genetic information, and are the product of species adapting to environmental stress and surviving as well as reproducing. The seeds of plants, including fruits and other nutritional organs, are the primary source of human food and the most important means of agricultural production; therefore, mining the essential genes regulating seed development and cultivating new crop varieties with high quality and production are fundamental to solving this productivity problem. The goal of this Special Issue, “Crop Seed Biology: Unraveling Genetic and Molecular Mechanisms for Enhanced Crop Development”in Agriculture, is to present an overview of the latest fundamental discoveries in the field of crop seed biology, as well as the potential utilization of biotechnologies in crop improvement. We welcome all types of submissions, including original research, reviews, and methodologies, in this field, including (but not limited to) research covering the following:
- Signaling pathways involved in seed development;
- Cell morphology regulating seed development;
- Interaction of phytohormones and other factors in seed development;
- Novel metabolites to control seed development.
