Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The application of micro and nano scale manufacturing was established during the development of the transistor in the late 1940s. During the 1960s, Richard Feynman challenged scientists to explore the molecular and atomic scales in his classic address to scientists entitled, ‘There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom’. In the late 1970s, Taniguchi famously coined the phrase ‘nanotechnology’. Taniguichi was in fact referring to the manufacture of products with nanometer scales and tolerances as challenged by Feynman. The sheer number of products having functional performance at nanometer scales and their associated features grows rapidly. The products include computers, mobiles phones, hardware, display-based consumer products, aerospace and automotive optics, and electric vehicles. Additionally, the effectiveness of emerging energy sources such as solar and nuclear fusion relies on ultraprecision and microstructured surfaces and the cost-effective fabrication of associated power generating equipment. In this Special Issue addressing micro and nano abrasive processing, the publishers invite you to submit research papers, review, case studies, and technical notes on the rapid development of manufacturing processes at the micro and nanoscale that are focused on machining and grinding operations. Authors are invited to contribute experimental, computational, theoretical, and practical applications of machining and grinding at the micro and nanoscales.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
