Dear Colleagues,
Nanoparticles play a key role in nanomedicine, as they can efficiently carry and deliver the therapeutic cargo, often together with imaging probes and targeting moieties, to desired sites such as cells, tissues or even a specific organ. Both experimental and theoretical research works on colloidal drug delivery systems have boomed in the last few years, with a maintained promise of revolutionary changes in the field of pharma and health sciences including drug delivery, diagnostics, and treatment (all together referred to as theranostics), point-of-care and personalized medicine. The most recent topics of colloidal drug delivery systems cover a vast research area, partially overlapping with nanotechnology, plasmonics, quantum optics, metamaterials, biomimetics, self-assembly, ‘smart’ stimuli-responsive materials, chemotherapeutic agents, biological agents, immunotherapeutic agents, etc.
The present Special Issue is devised as a collection of articles reporting both reviews of recently reported findings and new research data produced in this broad research area. We welcome articles including but not limited to: i) an updated summary of recent advances in the field of nanomedicines and colloidal-based drug delivery formulations; ii) the discovery and application of nanomaterials in improving both the efficacy of novel and old drugs (e.g., natural products) and the selective diagnosis through disease marker molecules; iii) the opportunities and challenges of nanomedicines in drug delivery from synthetic/natural sources to their clinical applications.
