Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is undeniable that the current energy landscape is in a transition towards a sustainable future. We see two complementary approaches in this transition: integration of renewable energy sources and investments in energy efficiency. Thanks to growing environmental awareness and an increased difficulty to exploit traditional energy sources, new technological innovations are being deployed. However, it is shocking to see that large amounts of excess heat in industry and transport systems (i.e. waste heat) remains unused while it has the potential to increase energy efficiency. As such we invite authors to submit papers on:

Waste heat to useful heat, in which waste heat is used directly in heating networks, industrial processes or converted to other temperature levels (heat pumps, adsorption/absorption cooling, etc.)

Waste heat to power, in which waste heat is used in heat-to-power conversion systems. This includes, among others, organic Rankine cycles (ORC), thermoelectric/thermoacoustic generators and Kalina cycles both applied in stationary and in transport applications.

Waste heat to energy storage, in which waste heat is stored to be used in waste heat to power or waste heat to useful heat concepts in order to match supply and demand.

The contributions may include, but are not limited to, system analysis and integration, component design and evaluation, techno-economic and thermo-economic analyses, operation and control of waste heat recovery systems. Both experimental and theoretical studies are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
