Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, complex disease that occurs mainly in children. It is characterized by recurrent eczematous lesions and pruritus that impairs quality of life and daily activities. There are several factors involved in the etiopathogenesis of AD, including epidermal barrier defects, imbalance of the skin microbiome, genetic background and environmental factors. There are multiple systemic and topical treatments that target these pathways that play a critical role in the etiopathogenesis of AD.

It is not clear whether AD can be prevented with various topical agents during the neonatal period. Topical steroids and conventional systemic drugs including ciclosporin and methotrexate and phototherapy are the mainstay of the treatment of AD; on the other hand, new biological therapies, including IL-4, IL-13, and IL-31 inhibitors, as well as Janus kinase inhibitors, are new promising drugs in AD therapy.

This Special Issue entitled "Therapy and Prevention of Atopic Dermatitis in Children and Adolescents'' focuses on publishing high scientific value papers on the prevention of AD in high-risk neonates, secundary prevention measurements of AD in toddlers and infants and school children, skin microbiome diversity and its effect on treatment in children with AD, topical treatment options in pediatric patients with AD, phototherapy in childhood AD and systemic therapies in children with AD.

We look forward to receiving your articles.
