Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The production of a Special Issue, on "Food and Cosmetic Toxicology", represents a good opportunity to share our investigations in food research and cosmetics, and can encourage us to continue working in the fascinating scientific field of the role of environmental toxicants in daily life; usually inflated by the many warnings about chemicals and pollutants. Despite the fact that the field is expansive, it is still cumbersome, even with regards to related big query to our human efforts endeavoured in the attempt to comprehend both the biochemical function of the many plant-derived products, retrieved from foods, and the biochemical components used in industrial cosmetics, often drawn from natural plant sources. Apparently, it seems that no direct relationship exists between nutrition and cosmetics, at least in regards to toxicants. In this Special Issue, I would like to focus onto three main issues: 1) natural xenobiotics and industrial pollutants found in foods that may exert an effect on skin physiology, as well as the relationships of immune system/adipose and tissue/skin; 2) causes of dermatologic affections (e.g., allergy) coming from toxicants present in foods; and 3) the role of the gut/brain axis in the communication immune system/skin when insulted by external toxicants or toxicants coming from diet (intestinal barrier). This may appear as a very large task, but I sincerely think that our co-authorship in leading this Special Issue to go ahead and reach its major target, i.e. providing readers with the newest evidence regarding food and cosmetic toxicology, will attain its goal and successfully fulfill its goals and expectations. Many interesting and very recent papers have highlighted the role of toxicants, either as additives (see the recent monograph on FCT by Sahu from US FDA) or as persistent organic pollutants in metabolic syndrome (see the recent paper from Yang on Curr Diab Rep) and the relationship between impaired metabolism and immune-mediated dermatological pathologies is a topic of the utmost interest.

This Special Issue is dedicated to the toxicology of products present in food, food chains, and/or cosmetics, and their effects on human physiology. The Special Issue should deal with the state-of-the-art in the activity of these toxicants on metabolic and energetic balances, as well as the relationship with immunity and/or the brain/gut axis, which would modulate the interaction of those molecules with skin and adipocyte physiology.

Original research articles and reviews are welcomed and encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cosmetics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
