Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The long-prevailing belief that the bladder is sterile stems from early medical dogma, formed when microbiology was still in its early stages. Recent scientific investigations, however, have challenged this notion. Pioneering advances in research have revealed that the urinary tract, including the bladder, harbors bacteria, fungi, and viruses that infect both human and bacterial cells, a discovery that has profound implications for our understanding of urinary tract infection (UTI).

In light of this paradigm shift in the field, we are pleased to invite submissions to this Special Issue, which aims to collect a diverse range of primary research articles and comprehensive reviews related to the etiology, pathogenesis, and diagnosis of UTI.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Exploring the role of bacterial and non-bacterial microorganisms in UTI etiology;
  • Redefining UTI pathogenesis;
  • The influences of the urinary microbiota on disease development and progression;
  • Innovative strategies for accurate UTI diagnosis.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
