Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the advancements in diagnosing pancreatic diseases, which have seen significant progress due to developments in imaging modalities and the widespread adoption of pathological diagnosis of specimens collected by ERCP and EUS. Despite this, challenges persist, particularly in the early detection of pancreatic cancer. Efforts for early diagnosis are being made to efficiently and organically screen high-risk groups and explore novel biomarkers, including microRNAs and exosomes. Additionally, research is underway to improve diagnostic capabilities, such as Serial Pancreatic Juice Aspiration Cytological Examination and EUS-TA for small tumors. Molecular pathological diagnosis remains incomplete, with ongoing analysis to elucidate disease-specific genetic abnormalities.
Recently, the analysis of genetic information for each disease through genome profiling and diagnostic support by AI have emerged as new topics. With next-generation sequencing, the progressing analysis of genetic information in pancreatic diseases is offering promise for precision medicine and the discovery of biomarkers. Liquid biopsies, like CTCs and ctDNA, are gaining attention, but establishing suitable sampling methods for genome profiling in EUS-TA and ERCP is crucial as well. AI is being utilized to support imaging and pathological diagnoses, as well as to analyze comprehensive patient data for pancreatic cancer risk assessment.
In addition to these recent topics, this Special Issue welcomes papers on various themes, including the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis and autoimmune pancreatitis, differential diagnosis of pancreatic tumors, and various pathological diagnostic methods. Contributions in these areas are eagerly anticipated.
