Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advancements in the design and manufacturing of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) systems have fostered the evolution of passive tags from very simple identification transponders, e.g., that are used in the supply chain, to general-purpose battery-less “computing” devices, enhanced with “sensing” and “data-logging” capabilities. Nowadays, RFID systems have the potential to substitute or complement existing wireless sensor networks (WSNs) because of their small size, low-power, and very cost-effective identification mechanisms. They may bring undisputed benefits to various IoT application scenarios, where networked tags with sensing and computing capabilities create smart environments, such as in enhanced supply chain, factory automation, smart-home, smart-city, and personal healthcare scenarios. In spite of that, we are pleased to announce that this Special Issue, ‘RFID Applied to IoT Devices’, is now compiling a collection of papers submitted by the outstanding scholars in this research field. We welcome contributions as well as recommendations.

Our intention is for the Special Issue to highlight the diversity of the research lines currently in practice through specific works to help identify new and undiscovered research questions and establish novel collaborations between the extensive scientific community that is interested in RFIDs. Both original research and review papers are welcome! We expect these papers to be widely read and highly influential within the field.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • RFID application on sensing systems;
  • RFID antenna design;
  • RFID reader design;
  • RFID protocol design;
  • RFID application on power grid;
  • RFID localization;
  • RFID tag array;
  • RFID application on supply chain;
  • RFID security.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
