Dear Colleagues,

Unlike the traditional computer operating to calculate binary data, both ones and zeros, a quantum computer can computer qubits (atoms in quantum states). To enable this extremely fast computing, many electronic components, including a high-speed switch, high-Q resonator, and high-precision frequency synthesizer, need to operate precisely in a rapid fashion. Additionally, alteration of quantum states should not disturb the states of nearby atoms or interference. Some research indicates that combining microwave and laser technologies can improve quantum computing.

The aim of this Special Issue is to collect the recent research and development in emerging technologies using microwave and optics to enable reliable, precise, compact, and low-cost quantum computing. The scope includes, but is not limited to:

  • Interface of microwave and optics;
  • Conversion between microwave and optics;
  • Switching system to control qubits;
  • Key components for quantum-microwave operation;
  • Generation of microwave signals using optical components;
  • Microwave-to-optics interface;
  • Scalable quantum computer.

Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
