Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), there is a huge demand for smart IoT applications and services in our everyday life. Examples include autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, robotics applications, IoT-enabled smart healthcare systems, etc. On the one hand, this reduces human effort, provides cost-effective applications, and yields cutting-edge new technologies. On the other hand, it causes numerous issues, including (i) the design of efficient sensors, (ii) resource management in wireless data communication, (iii) employment of energy harvesting technologies in smart sensors, and (iv) the need for light-weight security solutions, which make it challenging to develop smart wireless and IoT sensors in smart environments at a large scale. Moreover, the resource-constrained nature of the IoT devices in terms of storage and memory capacity and processing and battery power requires sophisticated design and development. Therefore, these issues must be taken care of when developing effective and efficient smart sensing technologies. This further calls for better resource collaboration, minimal human support, and domain-specific smart environment applications.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to discover and promote the most recent advancements, innovation, technology, and real-world challenges and solutions of smart wireless and IoT sensors in smart environments. In addition, this Special Issue will focus on providing quantitative and qualitative research innovations to individual, academic, organizational, and industry practitioners addressing smart sensing techniques for IoT sensors, including data acquisition, processing, and other related topics, e.g., privacy and security for sensors and users. Academic researchers, developers, and industry practitioners are welcome to contribute technical papers to this Special Issue. You are also encouraged to submit high-quality review and survey papers. Topics of interest to the Special Issue include (but are not limited to) one or more of the following topics:

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) applications in smart environments.
  • IoT-enabled smart sensors design, evaluation, and technologies.
  • Expert and knowledge-based systems for smart city development.
  • Security, privacy, and trust for smart environments.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
