Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We live in a technology era where wearable smart devices and systems, artificial intelligence, biomimetic electronics, neuromorphic transistors, adaptive interactive interfaces, and self-powered E-textiles are rapidly being developed. Energy-efficient intelligent systems incorporating circuits and power sources are used in a wide range of applications. Self-powered sensors can provide environmental data for applications regarding the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence. Nanogenerator-based self-powered sensors can be designed to detect physiological data as wearable and implantable devices. Further developments in energy harvesting, energy storage devices, and low-power-consuming semiconductor electronics are key foundations for creating energy-autonomous modulus, self-powered tags, smart keys, and cellular systems for a sustainable future.

This Special Issue of Energies focuses on new energy nanomaterials, efficient energy harvesting technology, and smart functional semiconductor nanodevices in relation to self-powered applications in remote sensing, health monitoring, robotics, interacting systems, and communication. Of specific interest are emerging applications and challenges in the design and integration of remote modules powered by the utilization of environmental heat/light/mechanical/electrochemical/triboelectric/ferroelectric energy, as well as other forms. We encourage you to submit papers on engineering approaches to improve the energy utilization efficiency of nanodevices and to design compact multifunctional modules and their integration in potential applications in health care, risk management, traffic control, and information technology, as well as evaluations of the performance and environmental sustainability.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
