Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Smart grids can provide unprecedented opportunities to grid operators, power plant operators, power retail sellers, prosumers, DER owners, EMS providers, DR businesses, customers, and various actors in power markets. They can allow for flexibilities in energy distribution, peer-to-peer energy exchange, opportunistic use of time-variant renewable energies, to just name a few. Most such opportunities will be delivered to smart-grid beneficiaries in the form of service. For example, a prosumer can find an energy-buyer through an energy-exchange market service that matches sellers to buyers; DER owners can be dynamically grouped and form virtual power plants before offering their combined energy supply to the DER market; optimization, resource allocation and scheduling, peer matching, grid reliability, security: the list of potential services is endless. This Special Issue focuses on the provisioning of such smart-grid services in light of platforms. Platforms provide a generic, seamless, and convenient ecosystem to the applications run by actors in order to deliver services to them for various purposes. This Special Issue specifically seeks contributors on the following issues but is not limited to the following:

  • Design of service platforms for certain types of smart-grid services;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of flexibility services;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of virtual power plants;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of energy distribution;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of grid reliabilities;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of security and privacy protection;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of renewable energy sources;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of energy exchange market;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of electrical transportation services;
  • Service design, algorithms, or other aspects of artificial intelligence services;

Security and privacy issues of service platforms, services, and applications in smart grids.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
