Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Today, power generation in the industry and transport sectors still relies on internal combustion engines. To meet the increasing energy needs, sufficient resource management and planning are required. The limited nature of oil reserves and the variability of pricing have led to alternative searches for energy in these sectors. Alternative fuels have recently become more attractive due to global energy crises, depletion of fossil fuels, limited resources of petroleum and stringent emission norms. In order to use alternative fuels and to increase the usage rate, the combustion performance of the fuel and the pollutants it emits should be examined in detail in terms of the environment, human health and engine operating life. In addition to increasing the power produced, it is also necessary to know the effects of the emissions and take the necessary measures to prevent them from exceeding critical levels. Current emission regulations and reduction technologies are based on fossil fuels. Depending on the use of alternative fuels, the development of methods that will enable the co-optimization of the engine and the fuel should also be investigated, since the fuel must be released at minimum emissions while achieving maximum performance. At this point, the development of methods to increase the combustion performance of alternative fuels to be used in internal combustion engines and to reduce their emitted emissions will provide great benefits both socially and economically.

This Special Issue, presented with this motivation, aims to identify ways and methods to reduce emissions while increasing the combustion performance of alternative fuels.
