Outstanding Contribution Award

We are pleased to announce the winners of The 3rd IJMS Awards: Outstanding Contribution Awards,
Molecular Biology—Prof. Raymund J. Wellinger, a Full Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, Université de Sherbrooke, Canada. His research focuses on how the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes, the telomeres, are maintained. He investigates questions on how telomeric chromatin achieves chromosome capping and how telomeric DNA is replicated. Their work showed that the identified proteins are shared between telomerase and other, telomerase-unrelated RNPs, which in turn raises intriguing questions on the evolution of telomerase.
Molecular Pathology—Prof. Gianluigi Giannelli, the Scientific Director of National Institute of Gastroenterology, “S de Bellis” Research Hospital, Italy. He has studied the biological aspects of therapies to prevent the development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He has proven experience conducting clinical studies on the validation of biomarkers for diagnosis and management of patients with HCC. He has vast experience in the molecular mechanisms responsible for the progression of HCC and for the identification of new therapeutic targets in preclinical models.
Prof. Wellinger and Prof. Giannelli will receive honorariums of 2000 CHF respectively as they have made remarkable contributions to the advancement of the fields of Molecular Biology and Molecular Pathology.
