Molecular Mechanisms in Dry Eye Disease: Effects on Pathogenesis, Treatment and Ocular Surgery

Dear Colleagues,

Despite the increasing number of molecules being discovered in or on the ocular surface, their potential or proven involvement in the pathophysiology of dry eye is still only partly understood. This Special Issue, "Molecular Mechanisms in Dry Eye Disease: Effects on Pathogenesis, Treatment and Ocular Surgery", is focused on collecting knowledge about currently known molecules and mechanisms, evaluating their diversity, and highlighting suggested or proven evidence of their role in the development or treatment of dry eye disease. As a reflection of the state of the art in the field, insight into these molecular aspects could significantly help to improve our understanding of this complicated disease, which is of major medical and socioeconomic importance.
