Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues, 

Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) techniques have been used successfully in many real-world problems. For example, in the fields of logistics, finance, environment, diagnostics, technology selection, etc. However, due to the revolution driven by Industry 4.0, with new breakthroughs in data integration, devices, knowledge techniques, innovation, management and technology, which underlines growing digitalisation and cooperative coordination between productive units in the economy, there are new concepts which do not utilize MCDA, and which would be greatly advanced by including these techniques in decision processes. A similar revolution is happening in education, which is increasingly heading towards e-learning and web-based learning, and the management of industrial assets. 

All MCDA techniques are welcome, especially combined techniques, the inclusion of fuzzy sets or group decision making. The application of minority techniques, or ones that improve on those traditionally used, are also encouraged. 

The scope of this issue is applications in MCDA in new fields, subjects, or recent advances related to Industry 4.0, IoT or big data, e-education, etc.; that is, subjects which have recently undergone substantial change and where MCDA techniques have not yet been included in the decision processes.

Evaluation and selection of a third-party reverse logistics provider (3PRLP) is an important tool for enterprises to improve the level of reverse logistics management. The identification of critical indicators plays a crucial role in the evaluation process. Firstly, on the basis of fully considering the characteristics of 3PRLP evaluation and selection, we summarized 27 evaluation indicators from 5 dimensions—overall operation level, management service level, information technology level, social and ecological benefits, and strategic alliance. Secondly, we adopted the Delphi method to determine the formal evaluation index system, and the best–worst method (BWM) to calculate the weight of each indicator. We determined the critical evaluation indicators on the basis of the weights. Finally, based on our results, corresponding countermeasures and implications regarding the process of 3PRLP evaluation were put forward. The research results show that the critical indicators include transportation allocation capacity, network coverage, service price level, service response speed, recovery efficiency, and service flexibility level. This paper aims to propose a novel multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) method based on interval-valued q-rung orthopair fuzzy sets (IVq-ROFSs). The IVq-ROFSs have been proved to be effective in handling MAGDM problems, and several novel decision-making methods have been proposed. Nevertheless, it is worth pointing out that these approaches still have some limitations, and there still exist some realistic situations that cannot be solved by existing MAGDM methods. Hence, the objective of this paper is to introduce a novel MAGDM method, which can overcome some of the drawbacks of existing approaches. To effectively and appropriately aggregate interval-valued q-rung orthopair fuzzy numbers (IVq-ROFNs), we combine the power average with generalized Maclaurin symmetric mean (GMSM), propose the power GMSM operator and extend it into IVq-ROFSs. Afterwards, a collection of new aggregation operators for IVq-ROFNs are developed. In this paper, we study definitions of these operators and investigate their characteristics as well as special cases. Then, based on the new aggregation operators, we present a new MAGDM method. Finally, we apply the proposed MAGDM method in online education platform performance evaluation to illustrate its effectiveness and validity. What Drives Authorization in Mobile Applications? A Perspective of Privacy Boundary Management

Personal information has been likened to “golden data”, which companies have chased using every means possible. Via mobile apps, the incidents of compulsory authorization and excessive data collection have evoked privacy concerns and strong repercussions among app users. This manuscript proposes a privacy boundary management model, which elaborates how such users can demarcate and regulate their privacy boundaries. The survey data came from 453 users who authorized certain operations through mobile apps. The partial least squares (PLS) analysis method was used to validate the instrument and the proposed model. Results indicate that information relevance and transparency play a significant role in shaping app users’ control–risk perceptions, while government regulation is more effective than industry self-discipline in promoting the formation of privacy boundaries. Unsurprisingly, privacy risk control perceptions significantly affect users’ privacy concerns and trust beliefs, which are two vital factors that ultimately influence their willingness to authorize. The implications of conducting a thorough inquiry into app users’ willingness to authorize their privacy information are far-reaching. In relation to this, app vendors should probe into the privacy-relevant beliefs of their users and enact effective privacy practices to intercept the economic and reputational damages induced by improper information collection. More significantly, a comprehensive understanding of users’ willingness to authorize their information can serve as an essential reference for relevant regulatory bodies to formulate reasonable privacy protection policies in the future. An appropriate project delivery system plays an essential role in sustainable construction project management. Due to the complexity of practical problems and the ambiguity of human thinking, selecting an appropriate project delivery system (PDS) is an enormous challenge for owners. This paper aims to develop a PDS selection method to deal with the related-indicators case by combining the advantages of Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) and Pythagorean fuzzy weighted Muirhead mean (PFWMM) operators. The contributions of this paper are as follows: (1) This study innovatively introduced the PFWMM operator to deal with PDS selection problems for the case of the relevance among all indicators affecting PDSs selection in a complex environment. (2) A new method of solving indicators’ weights was proposed to adapt to the related-indicators PDS selection problem, through investigating the differences between the ideal PDS and the alternative PDS under all indicators. (3) A decision-making framework for PDS selection was constructed by comprehensive use of the advantages of PFSs and the PFWMM operator in dealing with related-indicators PDS decision-making problems. An example of selecting a PDS is exhibited to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method. Full article
