Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

JCDD is launching a Special Issue on "Cardiac Ion channels in Cardiac Health and Disease". Electrical activity in the heart is coordinated by the propagation of excitatory stimuli through cardiac tissue, which is mainly composed of cardiomyocytes. Action potential formation in the cardiomyoctes results from the gating of ion channels expressed at the plasma membrane (i.e., sarcolemma). Intracellular ion channels/transporters located at various organelles, including sarcoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria, also influence the ion channel gating properties at the sarcolemma. The importance of ion channels in maintaining normal action potential formation is reflected by the increased incidence of arrhythmias, both in inherited and in acquired cardiac diseases. The purpose of this Special Issue is to broadly summarize recent advances in the field of cardiac ion channel research. We welcome experts on this research field to share their original research, as well as methods and opinions, on this topic, and/or to submit solid review papers and perspectives to bring forward hypotheses that provide new avenues for bridging the gap between advances in basic science and the development of new therapies for cardiac arrhythmia.

Manuscript Submission Information

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
