Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sensors have been around us, playing a key role in our lives. Biologically, we are gifted with five senses. These senses, along with our ability to communicate, make us human. Machines with built-in sensors are also commonplace. Taking these sensors, improving them, and making them grow in their varied applications is where we are in our endeavors and research on ‘sensor networks and actuators’. Such sensors are diverse in their functionality, characteristics, and applications. Connectivity is a key aspect of sensor networks be it inter-sensor, intra-sensor, or sensor to man/machine communications; and the applications that get enabled as a consequence. Energy considerations are paramount as the need to do more with less outstrips the supply of energy in almost all instances.

This Special Issue is an attempt to bring researchers across multiple domains together and build a source of information that will provide insights into the exciting world of sensors and their applications. This world, that awaits us, is rich in sensors on one hand and the services that they provide on the other. In many instances, these sensors may have human-like behavior. They may even be treated as an extension of human body and mind. Perhaps, communication-enabled sensors and systems along with ever-increasing computational capabilities will lead us to an environment where data is collected and analyzed with equal ease for most applications, howsoever demanding they may be.

We invite authors to submit research papers and articles containing original and previously unpublished research results. Review articles on current state-of-the-art sensor networks and those of the future are also welcome. Though we have listed the topics of interest via certain keywords in the following, we urge the researchers and potential authors to interpret the topics in the broadest way possible. Sensors are all around us and so is the Internet. Blending them together opens an unbounded world of opportunity. We are also hoping to have research articles that are unbounded in imagination, though they may still be bounded by bandwidth, energy, time, and other resources and constraints.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
