Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Membranes are a core technology for separating one or some species from material mixtures, such as wastewater, saline water, and mixed gases, and offer significant advantages over other separation technologies. Membrane separation has become a generic technology for solving some big challenges that we are facing, such as natural resource and environmental problems. New areas of the applications of membrane-related technologies are being explored in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and sustainable power/fuel production. This Special Issue promotes new light on membrane technologies and advances high-quality research by publishing articles in Environmental Science and Engineering. It will focus on developing new membranes and the use of membrane materials as a direct, effective, and sustainable way to address environmental problems. We accept full-length research papers and review articles that improve our understanding of membrane mechanisms, broaden the membrane applications to solve ecological issues, and alleviate/eliminate hazard risks to our Earth.

Potential topics in the scopes of Environmental Science and Engineering include but are not limited to the following: sustainable water and groundwater engineering, municipal wastewater/water treatment, shale oil and gas produced water treatment, industrial wastewater treatment targeted towards safe discharge to the environment, airborne pollutant treatment, micro/nano plastics, pharmaceuticals, per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances from water/wastewater, resource recovery and production of highly-valuable products from wastewater, and carbon capture with standalone or integrated membrane technologies.

Kind regards,

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
