Dear Colleagues,
Every culture around the world has a heritage of traditional remedies to heal their ailments, many of which are oral. Since the dawn of man, treating diseases has been an important task commended to special individuals and deities. Most remedies have been inherited from the experience of early civilizations to our modern-day societies, and now, more than ever, the oral administration of compounds and probiotics for therapeutical purposes is of scientific and technological interest. In this special issue of Pharmaceuticals “Recent Advances in Stomach and Intestinal Drug Delivery Systems”, the current state of the art is being presented in order and sense for our society. The understanding of the human gastrointestinal tract and its relationship to microbiota populations, as well as the complex and vast port of entry for nutrients and therapeutics it represents, constitutes an always innovative and exciting field, and promises a new to human health.
