Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Modern telecommunications are enabled through high-speed optical fiber transmission networks, which form the backbone of the internet and the gateway to the information age. These optical fiber networks utilize carefully engineered high-speed communication devices, which offer both the data-rate flexibility and reach required for the efficient transfer of vast amounts of data over large distances. The field of signal processing plays a vital role in advancing the capabilities of these networks and devices. This Special Issue, titled "Advancements in Signal Processing for High-Speed Optical Fiber Transmission Networks", aims to discover and showcase the latest advances and breakthroughs in this important domain.

The ever-increasing demand for bandwidth requires the development of innovative signal processing techniques, which enhance data throughput and increase operating margins. This Special Issue requests contributions that encompass both foundational and applied research, in the form of regular papers and review articles, focusing on the following topics:

  • Novel signal processing algorithms tailored to high-speed optical fiber transmission networks;
  • Advanced modulation formats and encoding schemes;
  • Adaptive signal processing for mitigating impairments, such as dispersion, fiber nonlinearity and noise, in optical fiber channels;
  • Technologies for enhancing the efficiency and robustness of optical networks;
  • Real-world implementations and case studies demonstrating the practical impacts of signal processing advancements;
  • Integrated multidisciplinary approaches to the design and operation of optical networks.

Researchers, engineers, and experts in this field are invited to contribute to this Special Issue, sharing their insights and discoveries to further advance signal processing in high-speed optical fiber networks. Together, we can impact the future of telecommunications and ensure that our networks continue to meet the ever-growing demands of our connected world.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
