Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The study of global evangelicalism—a discipline at the nexus of theology, history, and sociology—has enjoyed growing interest over the past two decades. The steady pace at which monographs, textbooks, and dictionaries, biographies, and the like have appeared serve to demonstrate its enduring, and increasing, appeal. Still, the field is young and full of unrealized potential. Pioneering scholars have succeded in making global evangelicalism a viable area of academic study, yet many are no longer working. Much of the literature produced over the past twenty years has not been brought into sufficient dialogue with itself. And the topic, by its very nature, embraces both a global scale and regional complexity that admit of further and more robust study. We are pleased to invite you to consider participating in a Special Issue of Religions dedicated to the further exploration of this important topic.

This Special Issue aims to contribute to the growing field of global evangelicalism by engaging the doctrinal core of evangelical commitments and the cultural uniqueness of its regional expression with equal seriousness.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • The bheological biography of key regional figures;
  • The taxonomy of the “types” or characteristics of global evangelicalism;
  • The lived experience of faith in a church/town/region;
  • The history and development of evangelicalism in region;
  • Literature review;
  • An annotated translation of key text(s).

We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 150–200 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the Guest Editor, Dr. Nathan Tarr ([email protected]), and CC the Assistant Editor, Ms. Joyce Xi ([email protected]). Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editor to ensure its proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
