Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In view of the major national needs and key scientific issues in the prevention and control of microplastic pollution, systematic research has been carried out in the aspects of detection methods, interface behavior, migration and transformation, ecological and health effects, and joint research; breakthroughs have been made in new methods, new theories and new understandings; and cutting-edge research in the basic science of microplastics has been initiated. To provide a scientific and theoretical basis for protecting ecological environment and human health, it is recommended that scholars study the separation and enrichment technology of microplastics in complex environments and biological substrates and develop identification, highly sensitive and rapid detection methods and traceability technologies for microplastics, especially nanoscale plastics. The source, pollution characteristics, occurrence state, spatio-temporal change and environmental trends of microplastics in different environmental media have been studied, as have the exposure pathway, bioaccumulation, transport process and mechanism of microplastics, screen highly sensitive and highly specific biomarkers of exposure and effects, study the size effect of microplastics and the combined toxic effect with other pollutants, and explore the correlation between microplastics and harmful health outcomes and the toxic mechanism.

Therefore, it is my pleasure to invite you to contribute a research article, communication, or review to this Special Issue dedicated to microplastic pollution management.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Separations is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
