Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is an honor to introduce this Special Issue dedicated to the evolving landscape of botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) in the management of pain disorders. The journey of BoNTs from a toxin to a therapeutic marvel has been underscored by significant research, particularly in the last two decades.

Animal and human studies have suggested the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of BoNTs, which can be administered through diverse mechanisms to alleviate pain in various conditions.

The efficacy of BoNTs spans a wide range of pain disorders, from cervical dystonia and chronic migraine to different types of neuralgias and musculoskeletal pain, including chronic lateral epicondylitis and plantar fasciitis. The scope further extends to conditions like post-operative pain, pain associated with diabetic neuropathy, and even visceral pain syndromes such as pelvic pain. This Topical Collection of Toxins aims to shed light on the extensive applications of BoNT therapy in pain disorders, backed by robust clinical evidence and favorable outcomes.

As we continue to explore and understand the multifaceted roles of BoNTs in pain management, this issue serves as a platform for disseminating cutting-edge research from basic science, animal and human studies, reviews, case reports, and clinical insights. We anticipate a collection that not only enhances our understanding of the therapeutic potential of BoNTs but also paves the way for innovative applications in pain medicine.
