Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The poultry industry is one of the world’s largest animal food industries due to the affordability, high-quality protein, and relatively low fat content of meat and eggs compared with other animal products. Despite the worldwide intensification of poultry farming to meet the growing demand for animal protein, several actions have been taken to implement sustainable poultry production that consider the dynamic balance between economic, social, and environmental aspects. Actions aimed at protecting antimicrobial longevity and efficacy while minimizing the selection of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) bacteria in this sector are at the core of sustainable poultry production. This Special Issue provides an opportunity to exchange research results, expertise, and opinions on the following topics:

  • The prevalence and molecular characterization of AMR bacteria of poultry origin;
  • The relationship between AMU in farms and AMR in bacteria of poultry origin along the food chain;
  • The pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) optimization of antimicrobial use in poultry;
  • New alternatives to antimicrobials in poultry;
  • Antimicrobial stewardship in poultry;
  • Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding AMU and AMR among the different stakeholders of the poultry sector.
