NMR of Polymers. By F. A. Bovey Frank Bovey

MRACI, Department of Applied Chemistry, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.GPO. Box 2476, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
This comprehensive book on all aspects of modern NMR techniques as applied to synthetic polymers (not natural) is divided into five chapters. The first chapter covers the fundamentals of acquisition methods applied to both solutions and solids, with examples from polymers in high-field (up to 500 MHz) 2-D methods. Chapter 2 details the methods used to characterise the microstructure of chains and how to determine propagation mechanisms from the spectra. Chapter 3 and 4 are devoted to solution and solid spectral interpretation, clearly illustrated with 1- and 2-D spectra, including imaging methods applied to solid polymers. Finally there is a full discussion of polymer dynamics both in solution and solids. With over 400 references, up to and including 1994, I would consider this book an essential addition to the library of polymer chemists.
