Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors performed RNA sequencing of the dorsal and ventral hippocampus and compared it with previous data to determine differences in the dorsoventral gradients of gene expression. The work is very thorough and seems professional. I only have some minor issues:

a) the exact anatomical coordinates of the 'dorsal' and 'ventral' hippocampi need to be defined. As is, the definition of these brain parts are impressionistic.

b) the text, especially in the Discussion part needs to be shortened and made more concise. The text is a real marathon in its present form.

c) the number of animals used in this study should be indicated.

I read with great interest the Manuscript titled “ Detailed analysis of dorsal-ventral gradients of gene expression in the hippocampus of adult rats” which falls within the aim of International Journal of Molecular Sciences. In my honest opinion, the topic is interesting enough to attract the readers' attention. Methodology is accurate and conclusions are supported by the data analysis. I have only one suggestion for the authors: specify the number of rats used to conduct the experiments.

I wish you the best in your research!

The number of animals was inserted in the description of results.
