Assessment of Water Quality, Eutrophication, and Zooplankton Community in Lake Burullus, Egypt
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Review for the paper "Assessment of Water Quality, Eutrophication and Zooplankton Community in Lake Burullus, Egypt" by Ahmed E. Alprol and co-authors submitted to "Diversity".
General comment.
The authors studied environmental conditions and zooplankton assemblages in Lake Burullus. They presented calculations of some indices to assess the water quality of the lake. They also found correlations between environmental parameters and zooplankton abundance. They concluded that Lake Burullus has good water quality.
Major concerns.
Methods are not well described. It is unclear how many samples were analyzed by the authors. They stated "that sampling was undertaken seasonally", but only 12 samples at 12 sites were collected. They should clarify this matter and indicate the sampling period (dates). If they studied seasonal aspects they should separate their data according to different seasons.
Discussion is poor. The authors should provide explanations for their results and compare their data for other authors. This is particularly true for the sections 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5. Such comparison is made in some cases but the novelty of the authors' data remains unclear. Spatial and temporal patterns are not discussed.
The "Conclusions" section is too long.
The English of the manuscript does not meet the required standard of the journal and significant improvements (grammar, syntax, and style) must be made prior to resubmission.
Specific remarks.

Reviewer 2 Report
The manuscript presented for review concerns the issue of assessment of water quality, eutrophication and zooplankton community in Lake Burullus, Egypt. In the age of world problems with water, this topic is very important. It is known that natural processes as well as human activities lead to the deterioration of water quality. Eutrophication processes (which are considered negative) are progressing faster and faster and require constant monitoring. There are various methods of water quality testing, one of them is the study of zooplankton communities inhabiting a given reservoir.
Below I provide a detailed note on the manuscript:
Map of the location of the research object. Photos presenting the lake. Map of sampling locations.
In statistical analyzes, I propose to add descriptive statistics.
Tab. 2 - please follow the order of the years. I don't understand why the Authors set the order 2018, 2019, 2017? Specify the units in which the temperature is given - degrees Celsius or maybe Fahrenheit?;-)
Tab. 3 - the order should be changed, first 2017, then 2018 and finally 2019
Line 254 - check the following units: mg / l L-1
Line 280 and the following - metal names are written with a lowercase letter Tab. 4 - check the entry of units in the 1st column
Tab. 6 - please consider introducing colors for individual rows - this will, in my opinion, increase the readability of the table
Please mark (highlight) satistically significant similarities.
The importance of research for international (not only local) recipients should be emphasized. Can the test results be extrapolated to other (similar) reservoirs in the world? Can the research results be used by researchers from different parts of the world, or only locally?
Did the authors consider checking the degree of eutophication also using other indicators - e.g. plants or macroalgae?
