Short Biography of Author
Dr. Paul B. Tchounwou, an esteemed figure in biomedical sciences, conducted post-doctoral research in Molecular Toxicology and Carcinogenesis at Tulane University Medical Center after earning his Sc.D. in Environmental Toxicology in 1990 and his M.S.P.H. in Environmental Health Sciences in 1986 from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (New Orleans, LA, USA), building upon his foundational education with an M.S. in Biochemistry and a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Yaounde (Cameroon). Dr. Tchounwou’s exceptional career spans over 30 years in academia and research, including 26 years at Jackson State University (Jackson, MS, USA). He garnered recognition for his transformative leadership, securing over USD 100 million in grants to enhance academic and research excellence. His dedication to fostering STEM programs and successfully mentoring over 100 Ph.D. scholars led to prestigious awards such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mentor Award and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring from the White House (Washington, DC, USA). Dr. Tchounwou’s impactful work resonates through 311 peer-reviewed publications, over 600 scientific presentations, and leadership roles in prominent journals such as the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Environmental Toxicology, and Frontiers in Oncology. His achievements solidify his status as a distinguished researcher and educator in the fields of environmental health, toxicology, and public health. Dr. Tchounwou currently serves as Dean of the School of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (SCMNS) at Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD, USA) where he leads the academic and scientific enterprise and guides the continued advancement of SCMNS’s research, education, and training programs. |
