Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper presents an improved Variational Mode Decomposition fault feature extraction. Authors transform a multi-objective problem optimization into a single-objective optimization problem.

The research is well presented, and the results show that this new proposed method improve the effectiveness of the VMD classic algorithm.

Please, add in conclusion section the limitations of the improved method and the future experiments and research lines derived from the present paper.

I recommend to the authors that revise the reference and try to change some of them for references with less than 5 years (2016-to now).

Points for improve the paper:

  1. Figure 4 to 8, 18 to 22, 29 to 31, put the vertical axis (Mode1…Mode8) in horizontal position and increase the fontsize or add a title to this figure (Modes) and add only the number in each subplot in horizontal and with higher fontsize.
  2. Figure 10,12 improve the visibility of “”.
  3. Figure 15, it has been extruded, put in correct size.
  4. Conclusion section. Revise the format of the first paragraph and the others.

1) Need proofreading : The Abstract, lines 15–16 The introduction, lines 39-40; 45-49; The conclusion, 583-585 2) The SFLA, the number k and the parameter α are not clearly described. 3) The effect of the number of k and α on the detection of defect in rolling bearing is unknown.

-please add colorful picture of measurements (optionally);;;
-please add block diagram of the proposed research step by step ;;; what is the result of paper?;;;
-please add photo/photos of application of the proposed research ;;;;
-please add sentences about future analysis;;;
-Figures should have better quality;;;;
-Labels and SI units should be added to axes;;;
-Figure 16 should be changed. I saw it 20 times.
-references should be 2018-2021 Web of Science about 50% or more (30 references at least) ;;
-Please compare with other methods, justify. Advantages or Disadvantages vibration, thermal imaging;;;

-Conclusion: point out what are you done;;;;

Fig 16a is plagiarism please change it

Moreover the authors should compare their research with other fault diagnosis methods for example
with acoustic
advantages/disadvantages of vibration/acoustic analysis?
