Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper entitled Economic effects of micro and mini-distributed photovoltaic generation for the Brazilian distribution system presents the methods used to achieve the objective of the study, specifically to deal with the economic effects of MMDG in the Brazilian distribution sector.

The authors used the estimation of the weight of this decision through a methodology adapted from international valuation models based on Brazilian regulatory information and metrics to define the potential market for MMDG based on consumer consumption patterns.

The results that have an economic impact on the tariff readjustments and revisions and their effects on the electricity concessionaire are evaluated. In the Enel Group's distributors alone, economic losses are estimated at US$ 1.2 billion by 2030, 51% of which will be passed on to consumers' tariffs.

In my opinion it is a relevant study and I suggest just a few details:

Restructuring of Section 2 to reduce the number of subsections and make the text more fluid

More details of the international benchmark and its relevance for improving and proposing scenarios for the Brazilian market and better detailing the economic impacts.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have analyzed the effects of PV systems for the Brazilian distribution system considering the economic benefits. The research paper is interesting. However, the reviewer has the following concerns:

  1. Clearly identify and write the major contributions of the research paper in the introduction section.
  2. The reviewer wonders if more and more integration at the customer end is made to the distribution system, how the utilities will improve the capacity factors of their plants?
  3. What modifications will be performed in your scheme to include the scenario discussed above?
  4. No optimization technique has been used to obtain optimal results. How will the authors ensure the optimality of their results?
  5. Carefully proofread the paper.
