Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

It is  a good article and permit to know the reason for farmers being locked in a traditional agriculture, especially in a zones where the water is not agriculture limit factor.

Fundamental is  planning and programming strategies to adopt and adapt practices that improve conditions. But also It is important to disseminate the information among farmers about the possibility of using alternative and smart practices to traditional agriculture, taking as an example the ability to make the most of the few resources as in the Raymond area.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors analyse an interesting topic combined with a novel approach and solid methodological background. I just have some minor comments:

  1. The motivation behind the paper can be improved by stating what exactly the paper adds to the existing scientific literature.
  2. In Section 3.3., some more sentences would be needed on exact sampling techniques. How and why these farms under study were approached?
  3. A comparison of the results with previous studies is missing.
  4. Some more discussion is needed from the policy perspective - what actually the authors recommend for policy makers?
  5. What are the limitations of the study?
  6. What about possible future research avenues?
