Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this study, a daily reward-penalty function is proposed for net-zero energy building (NZEB/ZEB) by considering the price of power from the grid, building energy consumption and power fluctuation. The manuscript is well-written and the developed, new method is clearly presented and validated but it needs minor revisions.

  1. Does equation 5 in line 155 of the manuscript involve references? If involved, it shall be indicated. If this equation is newly proposed by the author, it is necessary to further explain the reliability of its energy consumption data simulation.
  2. Does equation 6 on line 185 of the manuscript need to consider the inclination and azimuth of the photovoltaic array?
  3. In the study, taking Shanghai as a case, is there a peak valley policy for civil electricity price in this region? Information about the case electricity price needs to be further described in Section 3.

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper has presented a reward-penalty mechanism for net-zero energy building with a comprehensive mathematical model and evaluated different factors to demonstrate the effectiveness of the reward-penalty mechanism. However, there is some recommendation that can be used to further improve the article before publication as follow;

  1. Some of the figures is not mentioned in the text and should be ordered in sequential.
  2. Some of the referenced in the introduction section is not ordered in sequential.
  3. A further description with an analogy on the reward-penalty and degree of freedom can provide the reader with insight into the mathematical model.
  4. Are the type of the building and load profile affect the performance of the proposed reward-penalty mechanism
  5. In the conclusion, the section should discuss the applicability of the daily reward-penalty mechanism to ensure that the proposed methodology is feasibly implemented in the actual environment
