Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper studied the influence of oil immersion on the mechanical behavior of the gypsum ore rock mass, and the damage evolution mechanism of gypsum ore rock was explored through statistical fitting and normalized quantitative evaluation. This work is innovative and has positive significance not only for the utilization of underground space formed by mining but also for the reserve of strategic resources. The manuscript has the potential to be published after addressing the following issues. Minor revision is suggested.

1. As mentioned by the authors in the Introduction, certain scholars have proposed a new idea about using the underground space formed by gyp-sum mining as a crude oil reserve, but the progress and results of such work are less described. Detailed descriptions and references should be added in the Introduction section.

2. In Section 2.2, the authors set the time during the oil immersion process of rock samples as 0 days, 15 days and 30 days. It still needs to be clarified that whether the structural damage law of the rock sample will change after a longer oil immersion treatment, and whether the rock parameters will have a critical value at a certain stage.

3. The authors showed the failure modes of some gypsum specimens in Figure 9, but does not distinguish the samples with different oil immersion times. It is recommended to show the failure modes of the samples with different oil immersion times and distinguish them by marking.

4. s¢ in the annotation of Figure 6, Figure 7, and Figure 8 does not be defined clearly, and it is recommended to add relevant descriptions to avoid ambiguity.

5. The description of "Elastic modulus" mentioned in Figure 7, Figure 12, Figure 13, Figure 14, Figure 15 and Table 3 is actually a writing error, and it is recommended to make changes in the annotations of the corresponding charts.

6. The usage of English language should follow the required standards and reduce typos and grammar errors. Long sentences which are difficult to follow should be avoided to use.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

I've found this paper as very interesting with plenty of various useful results.

However, main remark is lack of the mineralogical composition of the "gypsum rock". Therefore, scholars or readers couldn't have objective view of the presented results without this data.

According to this fact, I can suggest (at least) the X-ray powder diffraction data for the mineralogical qualitative and quantitative analysis and determination of the initial gypsum rock samples.

Best Regards
