Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The topic of the paper entitled ‘Life cycle assessment of management scenarios for dredged sediments: environmental impacts caused during landfilling and soil-conditioning’ falls within the scope of Sustainability and is noteworthy. In this manuscript, the authors conducted experiments to determine the impact of landfilling (Scenario 1 and 2) in degraded lands using the scientific technique. The research topic and data collected are intrinsically interesting because management of degraded lands/soils is a challenging practice which impacts the and ecosystem management and conservation, and to establish cause-effect relationships between plant and soil. The research topic and findings are inspiring The following suggestions may help to improve the quality of the Ms. further. Overall, the title clearly reflects the contents. The introduction does establish the existing state of knowledge. Authors should add the knowledge gap at the end of the introduction. The set of measurements was comprehensive. The citations need up-dated. I have made some corrections and suggestions in the manuscript also. Some where the English needs improvement

Revise the paper accordingly.

General Comments for Authors

The current study is interesting and falling within the scope of the journal. The manuscript presented results of the study “Life cycle assessment of management scenarios for dredged sediments: environmental impacts caused during land filling and soil-conditioning”. There is well consistency between the title of the article and the results, and their interpretation. The write up of the manuscript is well described. The author has cited too many old studies references. I will recommend adding recent studies reference. So, that the manuscript should prove constructive for the scientific community.

The points suggested in general and specific comments should be addressed by the Authors to enhance the worth of the paper. After the addition of suggested points, I will recommend this manuscript for publication.

The abstract part is well described. However, author should needs to properly describe the treatments and their results in abstract part to improve the worth of the manuscript. The introduction part is well written. However, author should provide a paragraph about area affected by dredged sediments and percentage of their environmental impacts. The materials and methods are well presented. The presented results and discussion is correct based on objectives of the present research work. The conclusion given is too long. Author should concise it, so that it can be easily understandable for scientific community.

Specific Comments

Line 524-525- Replace the reference with latest study after 2015.

Line 589-591- Reference is too old. Please cite the recent study reference.

Some comments about your article are:

1. develop an abbreviation table that summarizes each abbreviation name to the full name

2. where is the highlight of your study literature? develop this part. 2.x.....

3. clearly state the flow diagram of your work. is the LCA method integrated with the cost evaluation method?

4. detail how the functional unit calculation is done? along with other input and output calculations?

5. too little raw data is presented. better detail the raw data. are you not using secondary data?

6. for the results and discussion section, your statement needs to be supported with other scholars' citation results. please fix this. in addition, also present the study summary, limitations, recommendations and research prospects and so on in this section.
