Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

After reading the manuscript I have following remarks.

1. It would be good to put in the text the general chemical formula of PCBs.

2. In my opinion PCBs toxicity is poor described. More data should be added in the context of soil remediation.

3. Authors should mention what changes in the soli environment are caused by PCBs. It should be added to the manuscript.

4. There are no chemical reactions, degradation patterns etc. in the manuscript. The methods described would be more readable. It should be added to the text.

5. The same is true for the mechanisms of transformations. Present them by reactions sequences, please.

6. It would be good to show the effeciveness of remediation technologies in the tables. In this way it would be possible to show e.g. what percentage of wat compounds has been removed.

7. The conclusions are to obvious. It should be rewritten. What of described technologies/methods could be apply in larger scale. Please, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of described methods.

Title: Technological developments and remediation mechanisms for phytoremediation of PCB-contaminated soils

Summary: Present review summarizes the influencing factors and transformation mechanism of phytoremediation of PCB-contaminated soil were summarized, and the research direction of enhancing the degradation of PCBs in plants was also discussed. Review was not well summarized with topic of interests. Following are suggestions in further improvements.

1.       Authors do not provide an in depth of review.

2.       Review hypothesis is not well explained.

3.       Authors not supported review with any figures and tables.

4.       Not formatted as per sustainability journal style.
