Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is a survey study on housing and user satisfaction. The case is from China and it uses standard statistical tests in order to present the most significant variables related to accommodation satisfaction. The main problem of the paper is that it lacks all elements of theory and contextualization. The literature list is relatively long but numerous main contributions to housing studies, urban studies in general, and urban equality are missing. I am not going to list them in in detail but e.g. Urban Studies, Built Environment Journal, Housing Studies could be reviewed in detail in order to develop a theoretical framework elevating and discussing the main concepts (e.g. what is disadvantage, what is relocation, what it housing) in an analytical and theoretical manner. Currently the paper is almost incomprehensible to persons who are not familiar with the location, Chinese society or Chinese family dynamics. Unfortunatelly, due to these extensive reasons I think that local Chinese journals would make a better outlet for this case study as it does not frame the results into international context or critically evaluate it’s methodological starting points.

Reviewer 2 Report

A very interesting topic where it is indicated to find a solution to reduce the emigration of the population in poor areas. All the necessary segments of the manuscript are given in the abstract, where the readers can clearly see the aim, results and significance of the research.  The key words are adequate, but it's just too long and translated into English is poorly understood and confusing. The literature review is completely satisfactory, with the necessary recent and older literature. The methodology is clearly presented, as well as the results obtained through tables that are precise and very clear and easy to read. No editing or correction is required for these parts of the text. Maybe only for the authors to explain the representativeness of the sample. Throughout the entire manuscript, it is necessary to correct the English language, as well as some sentences that are too long and become unclear. It is recommended to expand the conclusion. It is necessary to point out the theoretical and applied limiting circumstances, as well as to expand the importance of research.

Dear authors,

Congratulations for your interesting research. I have some suggestions on how to make your text more attractive for wider audience.

Your topic should be settled in a broader discussion on decreasing housing affordability accross countries. It has been found that young generation has minimum change to buy own housing not only because of increased housing prices (See here, for example:  DOI: 10.52950/ES.2021.10.2.003) but also because of increased costs and lower accessibility to mortgage financing (see here: DOI:10.52950/ES.2022.11.1.007). Housing contributes to poverty and level of deprivation and is an important topic even in countries experiencing decrease in the overall poverty level (see here: DOI: 10.52950/ES.2022.11.1.009). I suggest referencing these examples from other countries.

2. It is advisable to reveal the importance of increased housing costs related to increased energy costs. In some countries this share of housing costs makes housing unaffordable even for households having their homes in own possession. This is a resonant issue in Europe currently but perhaps in other countries. This aspect should be mentioned.

3. What I miss in this paper is a policy debate. Should the support (if any…) be aimed at supply or demand side of the market? See here: DOI: 10.52950/ES.2019.8.2.001

These are interesting points of view to be included and referenced in your research in order to attract more attention from international audience

I think this paper needs major revision.

- More recent references should be added to the introduction part.

- Comparison among the existing methods can be useful.

- Please clearly note the contributions in the introduction part.

- Please clearly talk about the method used in this paper. The used technique is not clear. Please talk about the theoretical aspects more.

- Is it possible to compare the results with an existing methods to show the superiority of the presented method.

- Limitations should be noted in the conclusion.
