Research and Application of Supersaturated Dissolved Oxygen Technology Combined with Magnetization Technology in the Improvement of Water Quality: Taking the South-to-North Water Diversion Project of China as a Pilot Project

In this study, the effects of SDOXM composite process on microbial activity, phytoplankton community structure and removal efficiency of main nutritional indexes in the canal of the MR were evaluated. This study is divided into two parts: static experiment and dynamic experiment( 2 groups: group with artificial aquatic plants and group without artificial aquatic plants ). The performance of SDOXM system was assessed by monitoring the organic matter removal, as well as the relative light unit ( RLU ) of ATP, changes in the community structure of phytoplankton, and the effects of artificial aquatic plants as biofilm carrier on organic matter removal and microbial activity. During the study period, SDOXM technology can effectively increase the concentration of dissolved oxygen( DO )in water and maintain the state of supersaturation for a long time(More than 3 days). The removal effect of organic matter in water is obvious. The community structure of phytoplankton changed from Bacillariophyta-Cyanophyta type to Bacillariophyta-Chlorophyta type. Finally, the introduction of artificial aquatic plants contributes to the improvement of water quality.

The authors should clearly clarify all these advantages of proposed methods compared to existing methods in the introduction parts.

the authors should explain more clearly to readers why they designed two kind of experiment: static and dynamic. You also need to explain what is different between the experiment and apply this proposed technology in reality, I mean is there any other factors that cannot be involved in the experiment but it is existed in reality.

This research is useful, should the author mention about the cost when applying it in reality.

REVIEWERS’ COMMENTS

Point 1: The authors should clearly clarify all these advantages of proposed methods compared to
existing methods in the introduction parts.

Response 1: Thanks for your advice, and I have added this part in lines 92 through 95 according to
your suggestion.

Point 2: The authors should explain more clearly to readers why they designed two kind of
experiment: static and dynamic. You also need to explain what is different between the experiment
and apply this proposed technology in reality, I mean is there any other factors that cannot be
involved in the experiment but it is existed in reality.

Response 2: Thanks for your advice, and I have added this part in lines 142 through 148 and lines
549 through 557 according to your suggestion.

Point 3: This research is useful, should the author mention about the cost when applying it in reality

Response 3: We are sorry that we cannot provide you with detailed cost details, but we have briefly
stated the annual operation cost of SDOXM system in the discussion section(in lines 528 through
531).

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear authors,

Thank you for your exploration of how we can better understand and evaluate risks and benefits of new water purification technologies. Here are some suggestions that should improve the quality of your manuscript.

In Abstract:

1. So many typos: in lines 23, 28, 32, 34, 37, 38, and in the further chapters. 2. In line 26: '… improvement in purified water quality' 3. In line 37: instead 'technology can effectively increase the concentration', the authors should write 'technology was able to increase the concentration'. 4. In line 38: should be written '…supersaturation for more than 3 days.'

In Keywords:

1. The second keyword should be written with the first lowercase letter.

In Introduction:

1. In line 50 and 57, the authors should explain the acronyms. 2. In line 86: 'In this study…' should be in a new paragraph.

In Materials and Methods:

1. In the first sentence, before the subtitle 2.1. Study site, the authors should write what materials and methods were used in this research. That sentence should state: 'Materials in this research are …….., and used scientific methods are ……' 2. In line 193, the subtitle should be 2.4.1. and the calculation formula should be marked as (1).

In Results:

1. The title should be Results and discussion since the chapter is too long with lots of comments beside the results. 2. In line 223, a figure cannot indicate.

In Conclusions:

1. In line 517: the sentence should commence with 'It has been proven in this research that SDOXM technology can effectively improve …' 2. In line 530: the sentence should state ' As the results in this study proven, SDOX technology is a promising …' 3. After the last sentence in Conclusions, the authors should write their suggestion and that should be addressed to a relevant institution or a community, etc. There were some authors' suggestions written, such as the one in line 263 through 265.
