The Effect of Land Tenure Institutional Factors on Small Landholders’ Sustainable Land Management Investment: Evidence from the Highlands of Ethiopia
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
I read the paper with great interest and enthusiasm. The paper is well written with good flow and logical sequence. The presentation of results is coherent with support of existing literature and findings of this research contributes to the existing body of knowledge and relevant stakeholders in Ethiopia in particular.
I would like the authors to propose hypotheses after model equations. This is very glaring.

Dear Reviewer,
Many thanks for taking the time to review our manuscript with great interest and enthusiasm, very much appreciated and we are grateful for having your scientific comments and suggestions. We understand and agree on the need to propose a hypothesis after running such a model and empirically test our assumptions. We have proposed a hypothesis in the modified version of the article. The research design questions/objective and method are now much improved. We have been mindful of space previously which limited our explanation and so does less clarity on those sections.

I have no objections to the article, but please emphasise in the text what is innovative in the article and how the results of this research can be used in the future.
I think sustainable land management is very important. Small landowners own a considerable amount of land and it is therefore essential for them to manage their land efficiently. The topic is extremely important and I think the authors should highlight the innovation of the research in the text.
The findings are well supported by the research described. The authors have described in great detail how the research was carried out. I have no objections to the way the research was carried out.

Dear Reviewer,
Many thanks for taking the time to review our manuscript and providing us your valuable comments and suggestions, very much appreciated. We understand and agree on the need to emphasize the innovative aspects of the study and how the results of the research can be used in the future. Accordingly, we highlighted the innovation aspects of the research in that land tenure studies needs to be unbundled the issue of security across the categories of land tenure security and bundle of rights which will help to design a pragmatic SLM policy and context specific implementation strategy as inter and intra-households land tenure situations vary. Hope the modified version uploaded in the system addresses your comments and suggestions adequately.
