Title: Evaluation on the physicochemical properties and anti-ageing properties of bitumen mastic modified by layered double hydroxides

The paper needs some major revision.

1-     The abstract should be reduced from 17-38

2-     The results should be compared with previous results to verify these results

3-     No symbols should be written in the abstract

4-     Illustrate anti-ageing properties in this paper.

5-     Ideas should be arranged in the foreground

6-     The article should be grammatically revised

7-     The reference should be added to the tables (1),(2),(3)

8-     In equation (1) why take the sinθ

9-     In Figure (2), the wave number is large

10-  Figures 1-8 The applied engineering interpretation should be illustrated

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper investigates the physicochemical properties of some Modified Bitumen Mastic. It is presented an extensive and detailed description of the methods applied to minimize the ageing and erosion damage of materials used in bituminous pavement. However, this work seems a sequel to similar published papers. The conclusions must be developed and connected with previous studies.

A few remarks:

Line 180 - Do you mean the size?

There were performed some linear regressions and quadratic regressions. How do you ensure the results are "statistically significant" in order to strengthen your conclusions?

Review Comments for Article “Evaluation on the physicochemical properties and anti-ageing properties of bitumen mastic modified by layered double hydroxides.”

Line 26: Define BM

Line 32: Define TFOT and PAV

Line 49 – 51 replace” Therefore, the modification and enhancement of anti-ageing performance of bituminous pavement can increase its service life, so as to reduce the maintenance cost of highway and pollution of solid waste.” By “Therefore, modifying and enhancing the anti-aging performance of bituminous pavement can increase its service life, reducing the maintenance cost of 51 highway and pollution of solid waste.”

Line 50: “anti-ageing” should be “anti-aging”

Line 57: “sea water” should be “seawater”

Line 59: replace “sodium salt and sulfate salt” by “sodium and sulfate salt”

Line 65: replace “LDHs prolongs” to “LDHs prolong”

Line 83: Instead of so, use hence,

Line87: what is melt blending method?

Line 88 – 92: Rephrase the statement “ And the changes in physical properties, chemical composition,  and rheological properties of MBM were investigated before and after ageing under different conditions and before and after erosion by different aqueous solutions. The anti-ageing behavior and anti-solution erosion behavior of LDHs MBM were discussed”

Line 106: Define Mg-AI-LDH. And is this the common type of LDHs used?

Line 136: what did the based bitumen consist of?

Line 144 - 145: replace “The TFOT aged BBM and LDHs MBM were obtained from the Thin Film Oven Test 144 (TFOT) at 163 ℃ for 5 h” by “Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT) at 163 ℃ for 5 h,  was used  to obtain aged BBM and LDHs MBM”

Line 150: replace “the test was completed 14 days later” by “the test was continued for 14 days”

Line 154 – 155:  define bitumen-CS2 154 mixed solution and KBr chip

Line 186: “ lg” stands for?

Fig. 12. G* (a) should be enhanced, LDHs MBM and BBM combined with BBM-TFOT difficult to read

Few questions/ comments

1.      In the preparation BM part, was MBM prepared by mixing the mineral powder obtained from the LDHs and bitumen mixture? And how do you prepare Based Bitumen Mastic? It should be explained more.

2.      Section 3.1.2. Chemical and crystal structures: The FTIR, XRD and UV results of LDHs, LDHs with MBM and BBM compared with other research results (other literature values)?

3.      How about GAI, Ic and Is and the viscosity and temperature values?

4.      All in all, the paper is excellent; however, in my opinion, more comparative results from the literature are needed.
