Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

sustainability-2598715:

This paper addresses an interesting problem: the time limit of environmental benefits of renewable energy power projects. This topic is interesting. I think it has the potentials to be considered for publication, but some concerns should be considered before it was processed further:

1. In the introduction part, in line 96, the authors should provide the support evidence accordingly.

2. In line 165, Green-e should be checked.

3. In line 205, it should add the reference accordingly.

4. In line 234, the authors should provide clearly data and data sources. And in Fig 3., it should also add the data source.

5. In line 264, the sharp decline of RE power generation did not see in this paper. And there many similar subjective conclusions, please check and revise.

6. In line 302, the reason why chosen 2016 as the model simulation time is not clear, it should express the characteristic of the year of 2016.

7. In line 306, the UC calculation should provide the reference accordingly. And it should add the advantage of the calculation model accordingly.

8. In line 318, the problem is similar to 5 above.

9. In the results section, the authors should provide the confidence interval and parameters of simulation of model.

Title: Time limit of environmental benefits of renewable energy 2 power projects —— Analysis based on Monte Carlo simulation

Manuscript ID: sustainability- 2598715

Thank you for submitting your paper. This paper deals with an interesting topic. However, a few revisions need to be made before publication.

Abstract

It might be helpful to make the abstract shorter and more straightforward. Focus on the most important results and their implications and avoid repeating yourself or using too many words. It would also be useful to provide more information about the methodology and results. For instance, you refer to a constructed model, but it would be good to give a brief description of it. Also, instead of saying "the results show that," it would be better to directly state the key findings.

1.       Introduction

Line 27: The statement "global consensus has been achieved on addressing climate change" is a broad assertion.

Comment: While there has been significant progress and international cooperation, not all countries have fully embraced climate action, and there are varying degrees of commitment. To enhance accuracy, you might consider specifying the extent of consensus or acknowledging that challenges remain.

Line 34: Please add full form of “RE.”

Comment: Overall, the whole paper needs to include references in many places. Especially the introduction and theoretical analysis. Proper referencing adds credibility to the important statements and helps the reader to understand the background/basis of your statements.

2.       Theoretical analysis of environmental benefits of GECs

Line 141: “The use of carbon credits for offsetting is a "result" type of mechanism, which con- 141 verts green electricity into emission reductions (unit: t CO2). However, the use of GECs is 142 a "process" type of accounting mechanism. When accounting for indirect emissions, the 143 green power (unit: MWh) in the purchased power part will be calculated as zero emission, 144 or deduct the corresponding power usage.”

Comment: The copied text appears to explain Figure 1, please specify that this statement is depicted in that figure. Do the same for all the figures.

Comment: In my opinion, it would be beneficial for the authors to include evidence from past research and theoretical models regarding GECs and their impact on the environment (with proper citations). Additionally, it would be helpful to reference studies that discuss how GECs can promote the use of renewable energy sources and decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

3.       Data and Models

Comment: It is important to provide a justification for selecting particular models in a study to show the accuracy and suitability of the chosen approach.

Discussion

Comment: It is recommended that the authors include a discussion section in the current study, where they can analyse and link the results to the literature review and theoretical analysis.

5. Conclusion

Comment: This section is well written; however, it is advisable to include recommendations for future researchers.

Thank you

I think the authors have checked and revised, and fit the journal standard. I suggest to accept after english language improving.

It better to improve the English language.

Title: Time limit of environmental benefits of renewable energy 2 power projects —— Analysis based on Monte Carlo simulation

Manuscript ID: sustainability-2598715

I would like to appreciate the author's effort to make the changes according to suggestions, which has significantly improved the quality of your research paper. However, there are a few minor changes:

Please provide the full form with abbreviations such as RE, PV cells, and GEC (in the introduction section)

VCS (in Theoretical analysis of environmental benefits of GECs section)

3.1 Definition of additionality

The authors state in the 4.2 Model setting, "Then, we complete 10,000 Monte Carlo simulations and model operations through Python 3.9 to get as close to reality as possible.”

Comment: Please specify why you have used Monte Carlo simulation and how it is best suited for your study.

Thank you
